Halloween Mochi Donuts

Hi everyone! Today we are making some fun Halloween donuts! I am making a Pon De Ring mochi variety today so I be sharing the recipe down below, but you are welcome to use your favorite donut recipe to achieve the same effect. This is absolute fun to make so feel free to go crazy on your desired theme!

Supplies

Here are thing you needs for the ingredients and tools.

Mochi Ingredients and Instructions

Ingredients:

1 cup of mochiko

1/2 cup of water

1 cup of powdered sugar

1/2 cup of all-purpose flour

2 tablespoon of melted unsalted butter

1 egg

1 tablespoon of baking powder

Directions:

In a small bowl, mix Mochiko flour and water together. Place the Mochiko mixture into a microwave* and cook the mixture for 1 minute. Take it out from the microwave and mix the thicken dough mixture. Repeat this step 4 times at 1 minute intervals until the dough is elastic. Cover and aside.

*If you do not have a microwave, skip this step entirely. And mix the Mochiko powder and water into step 2.



Kneading the Dough

Mix the Mochiko dough and the rest of the remaining ingredients into a large mixing bowl.

Mix or knead the dough until forms a sticky ball. It's okay if your ball is bumpy looking, it will expand and smoothen during the cooking process later.

Round and Shape

Cut parchment paper into 8 pieces, measuring about 4 by 4 inches.

Pinch a small amount of dough and with lightly dampen hands, roll it into a smooth ball.

Arrange the small balls into 8 equal pieces and stick them side by side. If they don't stick, brush a little bit of water to the surface and restick them.


Repeat until complete.

Cook Your Donuts

Heat some canola or vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or fryer until it reaches 330-350 degree Fahrenheit.

Once the oil is hot, place the donuts together with the parchment paper. It's okay if the parchment paper sticks, whatever you do, do not force or pull on the parchment paper as this will break your donuts apart.

Once it reaches a nice golden hue on both sides, gently grab the donuts and place them on a wire rack to drip excess oil and cool.

Lightly cool your donuts before frosting them. They are good on its own too!

These is where the fun begins and you are welcome to do whatever you want. I highly recommend using Meltables by Sweet Tooth Fairy, because they melt very fast and smooth, the texture is extremely silky, they harden quickly and they taste delicious! Their brown and dark chocolate Meltables taste like Hot Cocoa too. So because it is October, I recommend using Orange, Green, Red and purples for that Halloween vibe.

Melt your candy melts as instructed from the directions at the back of the packaging..



Dip, Dry & Decorate!

Gently hold your donuts and dip them 3/4 into the melted candymelts.

Lift them out and gently shake any excess off. Place them unto a wire rack and tap the wire rack so the texture of the candymelts smoothens out at the top.

Once dry, you are welcome to pipe or use fondant to decorate!

If you would like to add some fondant accents, you an use water and a tiny brush to attach the fondant unto the surface of the coated donuts.
