I absolutely love Halloween! Everything single little thing about it! I really like being scared too and even hold an annual terrifying "Haunted Forest" event. I also like the cute side of halloween and think it's just as important, especially for the young ones. I live in Japan and Halloween is popular, but kids mostly engage with the cutesy side of it. I have an annual "Candy Forest" event for these youngsters and this is where the Halloween Friends started.

I wanted the characters to be taller than a kid, lightweight and easily stackable.

I cut two characters out of one sheet of 5.5x910x1820mm plywood: two heads and two bodies. I just trimmed around it with 15x57mm wood and added a piece in the middle to secure the head to the body,

Cute characters are easy to draw! Just simple lines and shapes with minimal features and rounded edges. My halloween friends are basically a circle on a rounded rectangle with circle hands and rectangle feet.

If you're bad at measuring out shapes, you can easily trace them. For example, trace a large pot or lid to create the circle for the head and trace a plate to make the eyes. You can draw this entire character by just tracing things around the house

Painting is easy and I just used craft paints and stained the background with a dark green wood stain.

*Use a paint pen or oil marker for the line work!
