Halloween DIY Ghost Chicken

We got a 4ft chicken to make this!

We bought a 4 foot Holiday Hen that is super cute and fun, but it was lacking decorative surround, a set piece, to make it seem like an intentional outdoor holiday decoration.

Plus, this Holiday Hen was designed as a Christmas decoration, but we wanted to use it for other holidays including Halloween so we gave it a wardrobe change and came up with a Ghost Chicken which we tucked away into it's own spooky coop!

We Found this Giant Chicken at Lowes, and Made a Chicken Coop for it!

In this video, we show you how the purchased chicken goes together, how we built our "coop" and a couple of ways the chicken can be styled.

We purchased fence pickets and wood stakes to create our three sided "coop." There are two short sides and one long side for the back.

We used the Dremel Blueprint Saw Station to cut our fence pickets to size.

Cut List:

For the two short sides, we cut 6 boards to 35.5 inches long and for the back longer side, we cut 3 pieces at 4 feet each.

For the sides, we laid out three stakes and then laid three fence pickets so that they were approximately 18" from top to bottom.

We then used wood glue and brad nails to secure the fence pickets to the stakes. We finished with flat outdoor paint. We painted both the pickets and the stakes.

Staging

We first cleared and flattened the area where the "coop" fencing would be placed. We put the fence panels in place to mark the hole placement. We then used a San Angelo digging bar to make the holes. It really worked well with very little effort. The fence panels have been in place two months as of this writing and there has been no sagging or leaning. We were not sure the stakes would be sturdy enough to hold the panels straight but they are working well.

Lastly, we put the chicken in place and spread a bale of straw around the "coop" and over its feet. We draped an old sheet over the chicken and cut holes for eyes, beak, and comb. We then used a bit of Halloween "caution" tape across the front for a finishing touch.

In the dark, with the lights on, it transforms from cute Holiday chicken to Ghost Chicken!
