Our family has always enjoyed Halloween, especially creating our own costumes. Our basement has a wine cellar which I thought would be a great place to display my son's many costumes. I had quite a collection of costumes: some I made when he was young (Bumble Bee, Mr. Potato Head), some store-bought (Incredibles, Toy Story, etc.), plus we collaborated on a few of his ideas (Rubik's Cube, iPod, Wavy Arms Guy) He also had a few costumes from school shows (Humpty Dumpty, Super Mario).

Supplies

  • Costumes
  • Coat hangers
  • Packing material (such as bubble-wrap) to stuff the costumes

If you don't have an available closet you could hang the costumes directly on the wall using a Wooden Expandable Cost Rack Hanger

Organize Costumes

  • Hang smaller costumes on top
  • Masks and hats can be suspended at the top of the hanger
  • Balance out the display with larger costumes on the side
  • If necessary, stuff costume with bubble wrap to add shape (e.g., Humpty Dumpty)
  • Large box-based costumes (Rubik's Cube, iPod) can go on the floor

Create a Focal Point

  • Pick your favorite (or biggest) to stand guard
  • I repurposed an old coat rack to hold this costume, but you could use a music stand, chair, or floor lamp (unplugged).

Decorate With Leftover Costumes

If you have costumes that don't fit, you can stuff them and set them up as a scary decoration!
