Halloween Costume

Hello, Nes is here. This is my Halloween costume. I got inspired by Shamanistic looks and wanted the lower part to look goat-like, the upper part to look human, and my face to create a scary composition that appears both human and animal. Making this costume was a great pleasure for me. I love Halloween and want to put in a lot of effort. I rolled up my sleeves for a party that was being organized. I’m interested in crafting and love doing DIY projects. I got ideas from various sources and tried combining them with my taste and thoughts to create a costume I feel terrific about.

While making this costume, I used many materials and couldn’t photograph each in detail. I’ll create a separate list for each part. No living creatures were harmed in making this costume.

FOR THE HORNS:

When I decided on this project, I first gathered my materials from outside. I found items like leaves, branches, tree bark, and bones, and prioritized hygiene by cleaning them thoroughly. While they were being cleaned, I started working on the animal effect for my legs. I glued the sponges I’d bought into half-circle shapes using hot glue and wrapped them in aluminum foil for stability, securing them with tape. I made four in total—two for my upper thighs and two for my calves. Once that was done, I began to make the animal skull, I first drew a skull design on the cardboard to give it the proper appearance and worked to make it look three-dimensional. After cutting out the pieces, I assembled them and painted them with gouache paint. And then, I began making the horns. I attached four cardboard cups to a headband and shaped aluminum foil to create the horn effect, gluing it to the cups. After shaping it by hand, I secured it with tape and spray-painted it black. While waiting for it to dry, I took out my cleaned items and spray-painted them black as well. I cleaned the bone more thoroughly with a toothbrush and left it to air out for two days.

After some time, I started making the belt. I glued the tree bark and leaves to the belt with silicone, then tied black yarn to the belt to create a dangling effect. After finishing the belt, I connected the branches at intervals with yarn to make a ladder-like necklace. This entire process, including washing, rinsing, and waiting times, took me about 6 hours. Including the time spent shopping, I can say it took me 8 hours in total.

I started the second day with the hooves. First, I created the structure of the hoof by shaping aluminum foil around the front part of my platform shoes, then reinforced it by attaching cardboard to the foil. Once the structure was complete, I spray-painted it black. While waiting for it to dry, I took two branches I found outside and wrapped black wool yarn around them to secure them. For the blade part, I combined some unused white cardboard at home to create a large blade shape. It was a bit challenging, but I managed it. After gluing the pieces together with silicone, I spray-painted it black and, once it was dry, attached it to the branches from underneath with silicone. To make it sturdier, I wrapped the joint between the blade and the branch with yarn.

I also reinforced the belt I made yesterday by applying more silicone. I had some waiting times in between these steps, during which I varnished the bone about 6-7 times. While the varnish was drying, I worked on the nail effect for my fingers. I cut black cardboard into sections and rolled them into sharp points. I glued them into cone shapes, then cut each cone down the middle and reattached the halves to add joint details. Finally, I attached the animal skull I had made under the blade part of my branch and secured it with yarn. Including time spent finding the branch, painting, and waiting for drying, this process took me about 7 hours in total.

Since a party was organized at my school, I transported all my materials there. First, I secured the joints I made on my leg with tape, then I put on a pair of stretchy leggings and wrapped the faux fur yarn around my leg. After that, I changed my top, wrapping my black shawl around my body for a strapless look. I wore shorts for the lower half and tied my other shawls and the fabric I had painted in a loose manner for a relaxed appearance. I did my makeup to resemble a goat with a bit of my own interpretation. I teased my hair and put on my horns. I put on my belt, accessories, and shoes. At the last minute, I wrapped some black yarn around my arms, thinking it gave a nicer look. Finally, I put on the nails for my fingers, completing my look. This took me about 4 hours. I faced some issues while wrapping the faux fur yarn, but I managed to solve them. I hope you liked it too. Thank you!
