Halloween Cake With Cake Mix
I usually bake cakes from scratch, but I was a bit bust decorating the house, getting the candy, and other things. And we had a box of cake mix we bought from the store. So I decided to use it to make a sweet treat for myself for Halloween. Please keep in mind that I am terrible at frosting cakes, so if the frosting of the cake doesn't look good, it is because of my frosting skills. I am sure you guys can do it better than I did.
Supplies
Spiced Cake mix: 1 cup Water, ½ cup oil, and 3 eggs
Frosting: 3 cups Honey, ¼ a cup Whole Milk, 3 teaspoons Vanilla extract, 4 cups Milk powder, and Food coloring (for this one I am going to use orange for the main frosting and blue to write and draw on the orange cake.
Things you need: Mixing bowl, Electric mixer, Big spoon, Measuring cup, Oven, Cake pan, One big bowl and a small bowl, Frosting spreader.
Mix the Wet Ingredients
We start by following the instructions on the back of the box. For this recipe, the back of the box says to first mix 3 eggs, ½ cup of oil (I’m going to use butter instead), and 1 cup of water. Use the measuring cup to measure out the ingredients, the electric mixer to mix it, and the Mixing bowl to mix the stuff in.
Add the Cake Mix
After mixing the wet ingredients until they are a fine liquid, you will add the cake mix a little at a time. Do this until it is thoroughly mixed.
Put It in the Cake Pan
After cleaning the cake pan with water and drying it, rub a little oil into the pan so that the cake will slide out easily. Then use the Big spoon to pour out the cake batter into the pan. Then put it in the oven. Set the temperature to 350 degrees and bake for 33-43 minutes. Or you could do what I like to do. I like to poke a toothpick in the pan every 5 minutes until the toothpick comes out clean that is when you know it is done.
Make the Frosting
While you are waiting for your cake to be done, you can make the frosting. For this frosting recipe, I am going to mix: 3 cups of honey, 1/4 a cup of whole milk, 4 cups of milk powder, and 3 teaspoons of Vanilla extract. When it is thoroughly mixed, it must be a bit solid, so it can have that frosting look. Then it is time for food coloring, Move ¼ of the frosting into a different bowl and leave ¾ of the frosting in the original bowl. Put the orange food coloring in the bowl with ¾ of the frosting and the blue frosting in the bowl with ¼ of the frosting. Only put 1 drop in the bowl with ¼ of the frosting and 2 drops in the bowl with ¾ of the frosting. Use the electric mixer to blend the color with the frosting. Now put the blue frosting and orange frosting into two separate Ziploc bags and chill them in the fridge until your cake is done and cooled.
Take Out and Frost the Cake
When the cake is down, take it out and let it cool for ten minutes. After ten minutes take the cake out of the pan and put it on a raised cake dish so we see the full cake. Now take the Ziploc bags out of the fridge and frost the cake. Start by putting the orange frosting on every part of the cake except for the bottom so that it will be covered in orange frosting. And then turn the Ziploc bag with the blue frosting and turn it into a piping bag. To do this you just cut one of the bottom corners of the Ziploc bag. Make sure only to cut a little so a thin line can only come out. You can draw or write whatever you want on the cake with the piping bag, for this one I am going to write Happy Halloween on it and draw a little pumpkin at the bottom.
Eat It
Now your cake is done and delicious, I made this cake before Halloween because Halloween night is a very busy night with trick-or-treaters ringing the doorbell a lot, but I decided to make a sweet treat for me. Now enjoy this cake and relax while watching a Halloween movie. Happy Halloween everybody.
