Last year one of my friends told me about these delicious pumpkin seed snacks for halloween to make the most out of your pumpkins. It is really easy and simple to make and you can do what you like with the flavourings - go to town with chilli powder and paprika or stay simple with salt and black pepper. They’re a great alternative to popcorn and are a brilliant snack to watch all of your favourite Halloween movies.

Supplies

Ingredients:

  • Cooking oil (you can choose what type)
  • Your pumpkin (or the inside gloop containing the seeds)
  • Black pepper and Salt (or any seasoning of your choice)

Utensils:

  • A Baking tray
  • A Sieve
  • An Oil Brush
  • Kitchen Roll
  • A Spoon
  • A Sharp Knife

Removing the Seeds

If you already have your seeds removed from your pumpkin, you can skip this step, or if you have bought the seeds, you can also skip this step. Choose your pumpkin, and rinse it under a tap. Once rinsed, cut in half and, with a spoon, scoop out the seeds and pumpkin goo.

Cleaning Out Your Seeds

First, pre-heat your oven to 180 ° C and then, using your hands, try to remove the seeds from the rest of the pumpkin “gloop” making sure there is no pumpkin left if you just want the seeds (If you wanted a little bit of pumpkin flavour, I have found that, with seasoning, the goo will turn into a nice crispy piece of pumpkin). Then, wash them thoroughly in the sieve under a tap rubbing any residue off that may be left on the seeds. Dry them using some kitchen roll.

Seasoning and Flavouring

For this step you can do what you like, make any flavour you like and go to town. I usually like to stay simple with salt and pepper. For any flavourings or seasonings, you need to pour a generous amount of oil onto the seeds, making sure there is enough to just cover them all. Using an oil brush or your spoon, rub the seeds around in the oil, covering them as much as you can. Do the same with the salt and pepper, covering the seeds evenly.

The seeds need to be baked in the oven for around 8-10 minutes or until crispy and golden-brown. Leave to cool, serve and enjoy!
