Hairbrush Organiser

After regularly knocking a box of hairbrushes off a bathroom shelf, I decided that at better storage system was needed.

Materials

  • 3D printing filament
  • Super glue
  • Masking tape
  • Screws

Software

  • FreeCAD - used to create the 3D model

Tool

1st Iteration

The original idea was to have a rail into which one could slide a number of "fingers". These could be positioned so as to grip the handle of the brushes.

This approach did not work as the "fingers" rocked in the track and were unable to hold the brushes in place by their handles.

In the end I found that was easier to create the holed attachment that the brush handles could be placed in. In order to keep things neat, I then also created end and middle cover-strips that would hide the track and screws.

Putting it all together

Print the following:

  1. 1x abas034-base.stl
  2. 3x abas034-hole.stl
  3. 2x abas034-spacer.stl
  4. 2x abas034-spacer-outer.stl

Screw the base in place, to the wall.

Now slide all the pieces in place as shown in the above photo.

Apply a little super-glue to the one outer spacers so as to hold it in place and put some masking take on the track of the other outer spacer in order to jam it in place. Jamming the spacer in place will mean that you can take it out again should you in the future wish to remove the brush holder.

Closing Comments

This system can quite easily be converted into a modular system for hanging tools and other bits and pieces on your wall.

In the future I think that I might make a number of different clips and holders that I can use in my office or garage for storing some of my tools. I also would like to develop some sort of clipping or twisting mechanism so that I don't need to use super-glue or tape to hold it all together.
