Hackey Sack Knit Pattern

IMG_0868.JPG

Although relatively new to the site, I have noticed a significant lack of a Hackey sack/ footbag knitting pattern. A bit bored one day, I found this pattern online, and I hope this edited version will help any beginning knitter with yarn and an afternoon to do whatever.

What You'll Need

All you really need is a pair of 5mm knitting needles, worsted yarn of any color, and knowledge of a few basic knitting skills, not to mention something to fill the hackey sack with aka: dry beans, rice, plastic beads etc. and a plastic bag or something to line the sack with.

The Pattern

Just remember to keep your stitches your stitches relatively tight

Cast on 4 stitches

Knit front and back all stitches, you should have 8 stitches on your needle

Knit one round

Knit front and back all stitches, you should have 16 stitches now

Knit two rounds

Knit front and back all stitches, you should have 32 now

Knit 12 rounds

Knit two stitches together down the whole row, you should end up with 16 stitches again

Knit two rounds

Knit two stitches together down the row, you'll have 8 stitches now

Knit one row

Knit two stitches together down the row, you'll be back at 4 stitches

Bind off

Finishing Up

Before cutting the tail of the yarn, first make sure that you have enough to be able to sew the hackey sack/ foot bag together and begin to sew it up, but before you do close it all the way, you'll need to line the sack with whatever you have for lining it, fill it, then sew/staple/glue/tape it closed, sew up the sack, tie off loose ends and go play!
