The person who invented the cheap sowing kit has never considered that Nerds exist. If you buy a set it comes with several kinds of needles but what is the difference? Use your breadboard as a guide. If you put a needle in you can immediately see the difference between different and compare needles. Some are longer some have bigger hole to put the thread through etc. Pick the one you think fits your project best.

You can use your breadboard again in this step. Take the needle you like to thread out of the line-up. Cut off a piece of thread. Make the end wet to straighten it. Push the tread through the hole. You can use normal people instruction from here on http://www.wikihow.com/Sew-a-Button
