Candy :

  • Mitochondria - Gummy Worms
  • Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum - Sugar Belt (Blue coloured)
  • Chloroplasts - Wine Gummies
  • Ribosomes - Brown Skittles
  • Golgi Apparatus - Sugar Belt (Rainbow coloured)
  • Nucleolus - Red Gumball

Supplies

  • Preheat oven to 350F
  • In a medium bowl mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  • Using a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, cream together the butter and the sugar on med-high for about 3 mins
  • Reduce speed and add the eggs and the vanilla.
  • Now add the flour and the milk alternatively and finish off with the milk. Mix for about another 2 minutes or until the batter is smooth.
  • Spray a rectangular cake pan with oil and add wax paper.
  • Now pour the batter into the pan. Shake the pan to make sure the batter is even.
  • Bake for about 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Place cake on a wire rack to cool completely.

Step #2 (PART 1/2): Fondant Recipe

This Fondant Constructed Is Used For The Following :

  • Cell Membrane
  • Cell Wall
  • Vacuole
  • Cytoplasm
  • Nucleus

Fondant Recipe:

  • 2 cups of marshmallows
  • 2 cups of icing sugar
  • 2 tbsp of water
  • Yellow, blue, and purple food coloring

  • Stir the melted marshmallows until smooth.
  • Add the icing sugar and stir until it’s impossible to stir.
  • Clean the counter and sprinkle some icing sugar and place the mixture on the counter and knead until smooth.
  • Roll out the fondant and add food coloring and knead again until fully incorporated.

Shaping & Adding Colour to Fondant to Form Organelles:

Cytoplasm

First, to form the cytoplasm which is the base of our cell, take a portion of the fondant which may vary in size depending on the size of your vanilla cake and apply a fair amount of yellow food colouring onto your fondant.

Next, Once the food colouring is in your fondant roll the portion of fondant and keep rolling until you notice a colour change.

Then, flatten the cytoplasm ball out with a rolling and apply it on your vanilla cake.

After that, once placed on the cake proceed to cut off the excess fondant.

Finally, you have your cytoplasm!

Nucleolus

First, take the excess white fondant that you should have, if not you can repeat step 2 and make the amount of fondant necessary. Once you have the fondant take a portion of white fondant to add blue food colouring and roll it up into a spherical circle.

Next, take that ball of fondant and wrap a thick layer (not too thick) of white fondant around it.

Then, cut a quarter of that ball (1/4).

After that, you should be able to see the blue fondant inside which will act as your nuclear envelope.

Finally, place the nucleus which can be any circular object (candy, fondant, etc), though, in my creation I have used a red coloured gumball.

Cell Membrane & Cell wall (NOTE: THESE ARE LONG BUT THIN )

First, if you have any excess fondant use that for these organelles, if not repeat step #2.

Next, take the fondant and apply food colouring on it and then split the fondant into two separate thin but long strips.

Finally, apply the two strips on your cake (on cytoplasm) and then you have your membrane and wall!

Vacuole

Now for the vacuole, this process is quite simple. First, take a portion of fondant and shape it into a large sack. Next, apply blue/purple food colouring onto the cake. There you will have the protein distributor .... THE VACUOLE!

APPLYING CANDY!

Finally, Now that you are complete with constructing the fondant-based organelles and the whole base of this edible candy plant cell cake you can now add the candies that you have purchased from the first slide onto your cell!
