GET THE I-BEAM
I found this in an abandoned lot. My friend took a cart from Home Depot but as soon as we put this thing on it, the wheels broke, so we dragged it down the street and into my stoop area. It weighs about 500 pounds, I am not sure how we did it.
DRILL SOME HOLES
I used my magnetic drill press, and what is called an annular cutter, which is basically a giant hole-saw for metal. They use these tools when drilling holes for bolted connections in steel buildings, and other times when you need more power than a hand drill but can't get your work piece to a drill press.
SHACKLES AND WIRE ROPE SLING
I got some shackles that fit and a two-legged wire rope sling with hooks. Rated for 4,000 pounds.
ENGINE CRANE
Hook the sling up to the crane and start pumping. Up goes the I-beam. In the photo I am very stoked because this actually worked.
INSTALL THE SCULPTURE
Basically it took me 5 + big dudes to get this thing up the stairs and to the roof of this warehouse building. It was pretty nuts. Wished I had a bigger crane.
FINISHED - HAVE a NICE SHOW
This piece really fit in on the roof.
