Case study Jan;
Jan is a blind man who has limitations while performing daily activities. His biggest need is cooking independently. He has an induction stove, but he can't operate the buttons because he can’t see or feel them.
He wants to use his induction stove without having to place a new one. There are special induction stoves made for blind people, but they are expensive. It’s over 1000 euros for that specific induction stove.

We explore and brainstorm around the case.
Our 4 variations:
- A cooktop with simple, large buttons that are easy to find by touch. We mount the buttons over the existing touch buttons.
- A cooktop with voice control built in. Input and Output happens with voice based on AI.
- A mold that we can place over the cooktop making it easier to find the buttons. The microbit provides additional support by confirming the touch of the buttons with sound or vibration. In our mold, our electronics are hidden.
- Place buttons on the touch buttons of the cooktop. The buttons consist of a - and + side and work like a seesaw.

Proces pictures
STEP 1: Building the Frame
- First we cut our wood board to size: 92 x 20 x 350 mm
- Then we mark out our holes and drill them out with a bell drill (20mm dia).
These holes will serve to operate the buttons and find them easily.
- We mill out the inside to tuck away our electronics.
- We add an edge blend.
STEP 2: Electronics
- In the holes we stick 2 aluminum strips. When touched, these make contact and send a signal to the Microbit.
- The aluminum strips are soldered. The cable work is hidden in the frame.
- We also mount the 2 Microbits in the frame.
- The speaker that produces sound when the buttons are touched is mounted on top of the frame. That way it is clearly audible.
STEP3: Code

The microbit is programmed using the microbit blocks method.
