Gyudon (Beef Bowl)

This is a savory quick meal in Japan. It is a protein-packed dish and all my boys love this.

Supplies

Sliced beef (Sliced Beef Loin New York Steak at Costco) 1lb

One medium/large onion

*Water 2 cups

*Soy sauce 1/4 cup

*Mirin (cooked sake) 2 tbsp

*Cooking Rice Wine/Sake 2 tbsp

*Dashi (fish stock) 2 tsp

*Sugar 3 tbsp

*A pinch of salt

Cooked Rice (White or Brown)




Prepare Soup

Combine all the *ingredients in a medium pot and set the pot to a medium-high heat.

Prepare Onion

Cut the onion in half and slice each half in 1/2 inch slices.

Prepare Beef

Cut the sliced beef 3 inches long.

Add Onions to the Pot

Add the sliced onions to the pot.

Add Beef to the Pot

Separate the sliced beef from each other and add one slice at a time to the pot and give it a stir.

Skim Off the Scum and Fat

Skim off the scum and fat with a flat soup ladle.

Cook Until Onions Are Semi-translucent

Cook until onions are semi-translucent. The total cooking time from the start should be 10-15 minutes.

Pour the Beef Mixture Over Cooked Rice
