Gym - James Develin
Hi there! I am Ragul and I live in India. I used to be a skater myself but in 2017, I broke my left arm twice and my doctor instructed me to quit skating. This incident really inspired me to help James Develin design a gym that can be a space for both exercise and rehabilitation. This gym is fully run on solar power and has a lot of greenery around it. It produces its own food and is equipped with all the equipment for all ages. Here no space is wasted as it takes full advantage of all the spaces.
Here I have gone with simple, compact and minimalistic architectural designs. I have gone with the rectangular shape as it is one of the most efficient building shape.
The Parking Lot
We have a small parking lot in front of the gym. It is placed really close to the entrance for the ease of people with disabilities.
It also has wheelchair ramps for some people who uses a stroller or a wheelchair. I have also installed bicycle and skateboard lockers as I believe these small things can inspire people to come in bicycles or skateboards.
The Ground Floor
The ground floor consists of
- The main workout area
- Receptionist's desk
- Waiting area
- Locker room
- Shower room
- 2 endless pool
- Stairs and elevator
Outdoors
The outdoors include
- A small sprint track
- Badminton / tennis court
- An outdoor gym
- Hot and cold tubs
- A basketball hoop
- Open space for outdoor yoga, Zumba classes, etc We also have lots of trees and plants to set up the environment
The First Floor
The first floor includes
- Three physical recovery rooms equipped with recovery tools
- One office room/storage area
- In a gym, a food court is a very important place as it provides great healthy food which is a critical piece for good health. The food provided here is grown in the greenhouse on the rooftop with no chemicals.
- Eating/waiting area
- Stairs and elevator
The Second Floor
The second floor consists of
- Table tennis + rock climbing arena
- Open space for yoga, aerobics, etc.
- Stairs to the rooftop
The Rooftop
The rooftop is one of the most important places in the gym. It increases the sustainability of the gym. It includes
- A greenhouse that produces healthy supplies for the food court downstairs.
- Solar panels provide electricity to the whole gym
- Rainwater harvester to provide water to the gym
Summary
We have reached the end of this project. What I kept in mind during the design process was to make this gym easily accessible to all and make it self sustaining. I wanted it to be eco friendly and utilize all the resources the environment have offered us. This is why I have added many windows, solar panel and a rainwater harvester. With these many windows, we don't even need to use lights in the daytime. I wish my project helped James Develin to build the gym of his desire.
Thankyou
