I am probably going to get a lot of grief for this but why bother with a "lean stand" and just put your guitar in a stand?

Well the foam fits easily in your flexible travel case and you can combine them to actually make a neckstand so you can do a repair or change strings etc.

The foam on the base and neck when lent against something actually increases the surface area and reduces the chance of the guitar sliding off, it actually blocks it lightly because the lips of the foam add more contact area to the guitar. Curved varnished wood has much less resistance than the foam and being held in the u shape is less likely to move. It is not as good as stand but better than nothing if there is nothing else.

Guitar stands are cheap enough to buy - but if you don't want to carry the extra frame around this may be a good option.

Supplies

1. This is a little bit specific if you have found u shaped packing foam
the overall size is 95mm wide and 85mm and 15mm foam thickness. I got mine from some garden furniture packing that I set aside. Truthfully the hardest part of the build is sourcing that foam - you may be recreate the u shape using glued pe foam from other packaging.

2.You will also need a bread knife or steak knife for the foam.

Cut a 17cm and two 27cm lengths of foam. Stack the 17cm and 27cm on the neck in your soft travel bag and use the third 27cm as padding at the base of the body. Then you can stack one of the foam pieces under the neck to turn it into a neckstand.

Of course you can also do your own variations and even reduce the pads in size and shape and replace with other items like books or a box under the neck foam. The objective being to support and protect the neck.
