Grind Rail
This is my first instructable, and it hopefully gives you what you need to build your own grind rail. This grind rail is recommended for aggressive skates not skateboards or bmx, but dont worry be cause thats one of my next projects.
Introduction and Materials
DISCLAIMER: I take no responsibility for injuries that occur while building or using this project. Skating or skateboarding is inherently dangerous and you should do so at your own risk.
This instructable(my first one) will show you how to build a good grind rail out of materials found at your local hardware store such as Home Depot. The first two grind rails are for aggressive skates and at some point i will walk you through how to build a good skateboard rail but right now i dont have time. I will also add photos and video VERY SOON!
i cannot quote pricing for the materials because i already had them.
PVC GRIND RAIL (very smooth, do not wax)----
at least a 6 foot piece of 1.5 inch or 2 inch PVC pipe( mine was nine and a half feet long)
2x4 board as long as your rail, i used two that i braced together for my PVC rail
3-4 scrap short pieces of 2x4, at least a foot preferably two feet long--these will be the feet so the more the stronger
decking screws or screws that are at least 3 inches long
a drill
a drill bit that will allow your screw to fit through the hole but the screw head should not fit through
a countersink so that the screw head doesnt stick up
optional
paint for the wood not the rail
stickers
METAL GRIND RAIL(smooth with wax, wont grind without wax)----
at least a 6 foot piece of 1.5 inch or 2 inch metal pipe (i used the stuff you get for chain link fencing)
2x4 board as long as your rail, i used two that i braced together for my PVC rail
3-4 scrap short pieces of 2x4, at least a foot preferably two feet long--these will be the feet so the more the stronger
decking screws or screws that are at least 3 inches long
a drill (preferably a non portable drill for the metal rail)
a drill bit that will allow your screw to fit through the hole but the screw head should not fit through
a countersink so that the screw head doesnt stick up

stickers

Screw It
This step is for both rails, except the metall raill will be a little harder to drill
Take your pipe and mark at least three places to drill holes like the picture
THERE WILL BE A PICTURE SOON!!!
now drill the holes through both sides and remember to counter sink the three top holes so that the screw head will not protrude above the surface

More Screwing Around
now once you have drilled the holes, take the 2x4 and stand it on edge
and screw the rail onto it with the countersinked holes facing up
this picture shows which way the rail should be attached to the 2x4

Feet
now this step is the same for both rails also, except the pvc rail may require an extra foot or two to support the long 2x4
turn the rail upside down so that the 2x4 is on edge again and the rail side is facing down hold the rail like this and screw on the legs perpendicular to the long 2x4, hold the legs in place or they might spin around when you screw them in
use 3 or 4 screws to hold the foot in place and make sure the screw heads are just barely under the surface of the wood

WOOHOO
now your rail is done, go have fun, if its metal make sure you wax it, and if its PVC make sure you dont wax it
for my wax ive used soap but Gulf Wax is better and its cheaper, buy it at publix for 1 or 2 dollars
if your just learning how to grind then do it in the grass, also note that this rail is for aggressive skaters, and i will make one for skateboarders soon!!
if you are a skateboarder consider buying some plain old 4 inch wide square steel tubing for a rail, my local skatepark has a few of these and they arent even attached to anything but theyre fun because your trucks lock on well, if you cant find any try
