This delicious appetizer takes a spin off of classic watermelon and gives it a whole new taste and approach. Not only is this recipe completely vegan, but it is also extremely easy to make.

(P.S. when I was making this instructable, all of the pictures were uploading upside down so I'm unsure if they will continue to stay like that even after I post the instructable, but if they do, I'm so sorry for the inconvenience)

Supplies

Ingredients for this recipe include:

  • 1/4th of a seedless watermelon
  • 1/4th a teaspoon of smoked paprika powder
  • 1 teaspoon of olive oil
  • dash of salt
  • dash of pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic (fresh or minced)

Before I get into the actual instructable please note that a lot of these steps include sharp or hot objects so if needed, please ask an adult for help. Start out by peeling the skin and rind off of 1/4th of a watermelon and cut that larger piece into thirds. This next step is optional but for added looks you can cut the pieces into steak like shapes using a sharp knife.

Seasoning the Watermelon

Transfer your pieces of melon into a large bowl and add in 1/4th a teaspoon of smoked paprika powder, 1 teaspoon of olive oil, a dash of salt and pepper, and 1 teaspoon of garlic. The next thing you are going to need to do is evenly mix and coat the three slices of watermelon with all of your ingredients. I recommend using gloves so that way you can go all in and use your hands.

Place a large sheet of aluminum foil on top of a barbecue grill and spread an even layer of olive oil on the top of the foil (MAKE SURE THE GRILL IS OFF). Turn the grill on high and let the melon cook for about 7 minutes or until it starts to turn ever so slightly brown. Once done, flip each piece over and let it cook. If both sides are about the same color, remove the watermelon slices from the grill. The last and most important part is to let the pieces cool and finally serve.
