Grell Suttcliff Glasses Chain

I made Grell Sutcliff's glasses chain from Black Butler for my cosplay. This was really simple to make, and although it isn't 100% screen accurate, I thought I’d share how I made them.

*note: I forgot to take some images while I was making it. However, I have shown pictures after it was made of those steps I’ve missed. (That’s why there are beads in some images where we haven’t got to that step yet)

• Thin wire/string/thread/etc. (I used a very thin, flexible wire thread)
• 1.8mm glass seed beads (black) 1pk
• Skull beads x2 (I got the smaller of the two sizes I saw available)
• Silver metal beads (large) x2
• 6mm silver filigree beads 1pk (x25)
• Silver cord ends x2
• Glasses loops x2 (Or if you can't find these on their own like I couldn't a cheap glasses chain with clear glasses loops will do x1)
• Craft pliers (flat pliers would work best)
• Craft wire cutters

Measure the length of the thin wire to the size of your glasses chain and add about 1cm of length.

Cut the wire down to size.

On the cheap glasses chain, use the pliers to unhook the metal ring with the clear glasses loops on both ends. Once they have been taken off the old glasses chain close the metal ring again.

You should have two of these glasses loops now, with metal rings.

Take the two cord ends, if they have loops on the ends like mine, cut them off using your pliers.

Make a small loop with the wire and thread through the metal ring on the glasses loop.

Using the cord ends and pliers clamp both parts of the wire between them, closing the looped cord inside of it. (Cut off any of the excess wire if it’s poking through the bottom).

Once the end is have secured in place it’s time to start threading some beads.

Order of beads threaded:

i) 8x black beads

ii) 1x skull (making sure it's facing away from the end so it’s not upside-down)

iii) 8x black beads

iv) 1x metal large silver bead

v) 8x black beads

vi) 1x 6mm filigree bead

vii) repeat steps v) and vi) to fill the chain

viii) 1x metal large silver bead

ix) 8x black beads

x) 1x skull (making sure it's facing away from the end so it’s not upside-down)

xi) 8x black beads

Repeat step 4 to secure the glasses loop to the end:

Make a small loop with the wire and thread through the metal ring on the glasses loop.

Using the cord ends and pliers clamp both parts of the wire between them, closing the looped cord inside of it. (Cut off any of the excess wire if it’s poking through the bottom).

Now thread the glasses loops onto the arms of the glasses and you're done!
