Grass Ball Topiary

I love growing plants indoor. But usually some of my favourite plants don't last longer. I am very fond of making various things using paper, so Today I have decided to make Buxus Balls (Ball Topiary) which can be kept at kitchen counters, decorations, bookshelves etc.

Supplies

  1. Frosted paper/Craft Paper in two or three shades of Green. You can also go with just one shade also.
  2. Hot-Glue Gun
  3. Any Green Crepe Paper
  4. 19inch Plastic Ball or Foam Ball (You can also use slight smaller size Ball)
  5. Pot (5 inch Diameter)

Making of Leaf Petals

Cut boxwood leaves from two or three colors of frosted paper. You can also use only one color frosted paper also which also looks Good, if you wish to make Boxwood Greenery in single color. Here I have used 4 shades of Green color frosted paper as it was available in my house. I used my Epilog Laser Cutter Machine for this operation (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KscOMPxOE8BlPmVRPtOfRCK84rdBqGhw/view?usp=sharing). You can also use Electronic Paper cutting machine (Circuit Explorer/Circuit Maker/Sizzix Eclipse2 etc) or you can also manually cut it with scissors which is time consuming slightly.

I have attached the Design Files in the attachment below ('.ai', 'dwg' and 'pdf' formats)

Folding the Leafs

Fold each Leafs along the score Line then after, Fold leaf stems towards each other to show flat stem on back. Folding all the leaves first makes the process faster. It's a time consuming process, but the results are very Good.

Making the Ball Ready

Here, I have used 19inch Plastic Ball. It is not necessary that you have to use 19inch Ball only. The 19inch Ball fits perfectly in my POT that's why I used. You can use literally any size of Ball, large enough which fits according to the POT. (see Img). Now use your Green Crepe paper large enough to wrap around the 19inch foam/plastic ball.If you are using foam ball then use low-temp glue gun. Stretch the center of the Crepe paper and try to wrap the Ball around. Clip the ends of crepe paper according to the photo. And Glue the edges of Crepe into place.

Gluing the Leafs

Now add a line of Glue down back of first boxwood stem and, starting at the top, place onto ball. Repeat, mixing of shades of colors and rotating the Ball. You can mix in any pattern of your choice. Continue Gluing leaves to cover the whole Ball. Use your fingers to move the leaves to cover the stems.

Finishing the Buxus Balls

Your Buxus Ball is ready now. Place the Buxus Ball onto the POT. You can use different variants of POTs. But choose White POT it looks more beatiful.

Thank You.
