Gopro Scooter Mount

temp_75747822.jpg
It's the holiday season, and recently one of my friends got a Gopro. He has been loving it and is supper excited about it (as anyone would be). He also happens to love going on scooter rides. Lately he asked me if I could make a mount to attach his Gopro onto his scooter. I accepted the task and set off to create a new mount for the scooter.

Materials

For this project I used the following materials:

PVC pipe, I used 3/4 inch, which fit a razor scooter, but you might need a different size.

A little bit of wood

Some random screws

Hot Glue Gun (with hot glue)

Super glue

2 Zip Ties

3D printed mount piece from flexbuild 3D (more on that later)

The tools that you are going to need are listed here:

Drill

Dremel (Which I recently got for Christmas)

Wood Saw

Hack Saw

Making the PVC "latch"

First of all, you are going to need to take you PVC pipe, and cut a 1.5-2.5 inch long piece with your hacksaw. Then, Take that piece and cut it again, this time lengthwise (refer to pictures). Cut it twice lengthwise about 1/2 an inch apart, So you have a gap. I then used my dremel with a cutting attachment to cut down the gap a little further and make it cleaner. Be sure to test it on your scooter now, to ensure that it fits, rather than doing the whole project and realizing that it doesn't fit. Then sand down the edges with the dremel and clean it up.

Cutting the Wood "mount Holder"

Now, cut a piece of wood that is similar to the one in the picture. Then cut and sand the wood in order to curve it so it fits around the PVC pipe.

Attaching the Wood and PVC Pipe

Next, you need to drill a hole in the PVC pipe, and a whole in the wood to put a screw through. Then drill in the screw through the PVC and the wood, so that they are attached to each other.

Gluing for Added Support

I then glued the gap between the PVC and the wood, I used a little bit of super glue first, Then surrounded it with hot glue. It reinforced the grip. I wanted to make sure that I could get the best, and safest job done. I also hot glued the screw on the inside of the pipe, because I was worried that the screw might scratch the scooter. Hopefully the hot glue will guard the scooter.

3D Printing

Now you are going to need to 3D print the handle. You could use a mount that you bought from Gopro or another brand but I didn't have one. So I found a file off of thingiverse, and 3D printed it using flexbuild 3D. I could have made my own gopro mount for 3D printing but I figured, so many people have already done that, why just make something similar when you can use theirs? The Gopro mount can be found here:

Attaching the Gopro Mount

Now to attach the Gopro mount to the scooter mount. I wanted to screw it in, but I didn't have any screws big enough to fit through the hole in the bottom of the mount. So, instead, I used the same as I used to secure the wood to the PVC. I first used the super glue, and then layed down the mount onto the wood. I then surrounded the mount with a lot of hot glue. Just to reinforce the super glule.

Zip Ties

Now you need to attach the zip ties. First, snap on your mount to your scooter. Then attach the zip ties like in the picture. One on the top of the mount, and one on the bottom of the mount.

Testing It Out

Here is a picture of the gopro being used (sorry if the picture quality isn't great, it was a screens shot from a video). The mount works great! And my friend is happy with it.

Final Thoughts

This turned out to be a successful, and fun project. Everyone turned out happy and we all had a good time. Hopefully I'll be able to Make one one of these when I get a gopro. This was also the first project that I got to use my dremel on. It was and is one of the biggest helps that there is. It is in the runnings for the best tool I have.

Also, don't forget to vote for this in all of the contests that it is currently in if you like it.
