Googly Eye Truck Face
When I upgraded from a minivan to a half-ton pickup truck, I knew I had to do something to make my stock vehicle special. Inspired by a TikTok video, I set about making a mod that few, if anyone else was sporting on their truck.
Supplies
3D Printer (I used a Prusa i3MK3S with MMU2 attachment)
PETG Filament (black, white, and red)
7" googly eyes from Amazon
Two-part Epoxy (I used TotalBoat brand)
Zip Ties
Design and Materials
I first acquired the largest googly eyes I could find on Amazon. This was easier than you would imagine, and in short order I had a pair of 7" diameter eyes. I designed the mounts in Autodesk Fusion 360, making it strong enough to survive highway speeds. The tongue is meant to be reminiscent of a dog happily hanging its head out the window of a moving car.
Printing
The parts were all printed on a Prusa i3MK3S printer, taking advantage of the Multi Materials Unit (MMU2) for the multiple colors of the mouth and tongue. Print files and details can be found here .
Assembly
The attachment points press-fit into the holes in the mounts, and can be CA glued for extra security. The eyes and mouth/tongue are glued into the mounts using a generous amount of two-part epoxy.
Mounting
The finished pieces are mounted on the grille using regular zip ties.
Lego Animation
Lego animation for the video was accomplished using free Blender software with models and add-ins from Mecabricks.
