Gnocchi Recipe

This is the original Italian recipe to make gnocchi. Gnocchi are a typical meal in Italy loved by all. I would say that this is the easiest thing to do, as it has a few ingredients and few steps. We do these every year for the holidays and are a million times better than the store-bought ones.
In this instructable, I'm going to show you how to do the simple, classic Italian gnocchi.
*The ingredients are for 4 people so we double it*
Supplies
- potatoes (1 kg)
- flour (300 g)
- egg (1)
- salt
Boil Potatoes

Boil water and add potatoes. Remove potatoes after 30 minutes or until ready.
*to see if potatoes are ready, stab a potato with a fork, if the fork goes easily through the middle, it’s ready*
Drain Potatoes and Add Flour

Smash potatoes as soon as drained. Smash the hot potatoes and place them on the sifted flour.
*use a potato smasher to smash the potatoes, not a fork*
*potatoes don’t need to be peeled because the peel will remain inside of the potato smasher*
*to sift the flour use the sieve*
Egg and Mix

Add egg (slightly beaten) and a pinch of salt and mix it all together
*mix everything together will your hands*
*the dough will be very soft*
*don’t over mix because the gnocchi will become hard*
*also, it’s very good to eat raw*
Cut

Cut off a little piece of dough and roll it (Like a worm). Get a knife and start cutting the dough in small chunks, about 2 centimeters thick.
*When rolling the dough think about making a worm*
*cover the dough that is not being used*
Flour and Tray

*Optional: to make them look like gnocchi, get the back of a fork and with your thumb gently roll them over the fork. This will create the classic appearance*
Get a tray and cover it with a towel, sprinkle flour over the towel and place the gnocchi on it, sprinkle a little flour on them and cover them with another towel.
*put the gnocchi at a distance so they don’t get attached*
Cook

Get a pot and boil water and add salt. Add small amounts of gnocchi to the pot so they don’t get attached and let them cook.
*gnocchi take very little, little time to cook so be careful*
*once they rise, they are ready*
Plate and Serve

Drain the gnocchi and serve. Gnocchi are best served with a little bit of butter, tomato sauce, or melted butter mixed with sage.
*to drain, get a cooking spoon with holes at the bottom and pick them up as they cook*
