Our cub scouts made this at the nighttime pack meeting. Glow in the dark paint inside of a jar, then make your design on the outside. Draw a jack-o-lantern, scary face, stars, or any design you want to make this glow in the dark craft.

Low mess, ages pre-k to 5th grade, even the older kids though it was cool. And no one lost their craft at the end of the night!

  • Baby food jars (bought these at a local American Science and Surplus, 1oz glass jars)
  • *Craft paint brush
  • Glow in the dark acrylic paint (found in craft stores i.e. Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Joann Fabric)
  • Permanent marker
  • flashlight or bright light

*No brush, no problem. Pour in and roll works too.

Paint Inside

It's best to choose the color to match the design on the outside. Orange for a jack-o-lantern.

The pour makes this a cleaner paint craft. Squirt a dollop of paint inside. Be generous and use the brush to spread the paint. The glow works even when wet.

If you don't have a brush, squirt paint and rotate to cover the sides.

Draw on the Outside

Black, red, or blue permanent markers work. Draw your design, let dry, and draw another layer. This darkens your design.

If you make a mistake, use hand sanitizer to wipe off and start again.

Charge Up and Glow

Even wet these will work. Use a flashlight, phone light, or light bulb to charge the paint.

And they fit in your pocket.
