Hello All,

Warm welcome to my instructables, by end of this instructable you'll have the basic understanding of making a resin clock. Do's and Don't for beginner who is new to Epoxy resin. Last two - three years Epoxy resin awareness has reached lot of people around the world especially during pandemic time. I have started working with resin from 2021, check out my beginner friendly instructable which contain basic instructions

Difficulty level: Intermediate

Since the theme i have chosen is floral, i wanted make a clock that look like garden and give out nature vibe it been every time looked at. So supplies will include

1) Dried flowers

Here i have planned with supply with contain surplus of Daisy, Gerbera, Aster, Queenlace, Fern leaves, Baby breath

2) Acrylic base - 12 inch size with 2mm thickness

3) Resin - 200gm & Hardener - 100gm

4) Masking Tape - As required

5) Reusable cup or mini paper cups as container for mixing resin

6) Resin spatula for combining resin & hardener

7) Add ons like holographic chunks, heart and metallic butterfly sticker to give more life the garden

8) Glow in dark powder - 1-2 gm

9) Number silicone mould

Safety procedure

1) Respirator mask

2) Lab Quality hand gloves upto elbow is better for beginners

Please begin your resin journey without safety precautions mentioned by the manufacturers, detail will be generally mentioned outside the resin bottle, also wear apron to cover your dress.

When resin comes in contact with skin immediately apply isopropyl alcohol AKA rubbing alcohol and wash with soap water. Delayed cleansing can cause skin irritation so prompt action required.

While mixing and working with resin & hardener, always wear mask and gloves

Garden Arrangement

This arrangement does not come with instruction manual , as it is totally based on your creativity. Given the flowers and colour combo, placement and filling at certain distance, after lot of combination, i ended with arrangement as in 3rd image. Felt something was missing so added bit holographic chunk magic followed by hearts

Resin Layering

Circle the base edges with masking tape and in centre too.

Here i have used 2:1 resin & Hardener ratio, so for first layer of pouring mixed 40 gm of resin with 20gm of hardener. After combining well, the resin should be transparent like see through. Kept it ideal for 10 minutes so i get pouring consistency like honey.

Transfer the metal butterfly on the acrylic surface and peel off the plastic sheet

Why to do like that, why can't it be poured directly after mixing?

Here's why

1) Need the epoxy resin in honey consistency,

2) Fixing/covering the flowers with epoxy resin as first layer, if when poured with water consistency the flowers tend to move and get dispositioned

3) Also dried flower has the tendency to float above resin as its light-weighted

Numerals

This part gets interesting and its the unique part where it makes your clock stand out from ordinary ones. Mix resin of lesser quantity like 10gm resin and 5gm hardener. Add few drops of sea blue alcohol ink to make it more blue. As the glow in dark i have used emit blue colour. Mix and pour into number mold

Second Layering

After 24 hr when the first layer is cured, mix up resin of resin-60gm & Hardener-30gm to obtain 90 gm and start pouring the thin layer. Using resin spatula drag resin and cover up the spots till the edge

After Second Layering

IMG_20230126_173950.jpg

After few treading mins of drag resin carefully avoiding drip (even though its covered with masking tape), final look will be like above.

I'm sorry for photobombing along with mobile on the clock while taking photo as its very much reflective in nature like glass :P

Glow in Dark Needles

Ok, so the numbering are in glow in dark, but without needle being visible how someone can check the time durign night time without switching on light, so needles especially hour and minute needle to be top coated with glow in dark portion. As mentioned above mix resin and add glow in dark powder and position it by sticking onto double tap to avoid base movement. Using silicone brush apply coating even the numbers taken out of mould, just to give a convex finishing

Number Arrangement

Its time to apply your mathematical skills here :P First arrange 12, 3, 6 and 9 at 0,90,180 and 270 degree of circle, after that add the strikes for denoting five minutes. Pour resin final coating and wait for your masterpiece to dry. once cured, add Clock machine as per details provided in clock machine kit. Tighten using clock fitting tool, Add your hour needle first and minutes and finally seconds needle.

Thank You
