I would like to share how I made a glowing ring for my betta fish. He loves to hang himself in the ring when he takes a rest or sleeps. He loves to swim around the tank and pass through the ring as well. Especially, the ring will glow in the dark, so it makes the tank more beautiful at night without using electricity. As a bonus, I bought some aquatic glowing pebbles to light up the ground of the tank.

Supplies

  • Clip (paper clip, or something to help hang the ring from the lid of the tank),
  • circular cap (for the shape, it is big enough so that the fish can get through),
  • string, ( a fish line is recommended about 30 cm or 12 inches in length)
  • straw, ( to help make a knot)
  • luminous glow tape, ( this makes your ring glows in the dark)
  • small aquatic stones, ( add the texture and color to the ring during the day)
  • scissors,
  • hot glue sticks,
  • hot glue gun,
  • and lighter (to seal the end of the string)
  • knife

Adjust the Ring Size and Make a Knot

  1. Use a string (fish line) to make a loop base on the fish size. I used a circular cap to make a loop easier.
  2. Then use the straw to make a knot. Take the longer end of the string to wrap around the shorter end and the straw at the same time a few times toward the loop, then put the long end through the straw, pull the straw out, adjust the ring size and make a tight knot.
  3. using the scissors to cut and the lighter to seal the short end of the string.

Glue Stones to the Loop

  1. Use the hot glue to glue the loop to the cap, this step is to create a surface so that the stones can have some base to stick on later.
  2. Glue more hot glue to the loop and adjust the thickness of the loop base on the size of the stones.
  3. Glue stones on the loop.
  4. Be careful taking the loop off from the circular cap. ( you can use a knife to make it get off easier)
  5. Now glue stones to another side of the loop.
  6. Glue the inner and outer loop, to seal the string which makes the loop. Make sure when you glue, the surfaces need to be smooth.

Paste the Luminous Glow Tape Around the Ring

  1. Adjust the length and the width of the luminous glow tape, then stick it around the ring.
  2. Then use hot glue to make a thin layer to cover the luminous glow tape, make sure to completely seal the tape, and create a smooth surface as well.
  3. Use a knife to take off the excess glue, to make sure the ring is smooth so that it does not hurt your fish fins and tail.

Hang It Up

  1. Make a small loop from the end of the string so that you can hang the ring up and adjust the length of the string.
  2. you can use a paper clip to keep one end locked and hang it in the fish tank.
