Glasses Chest and Stand
Introduction:
This instructable shows you how to make your own display stand for glasses or any other jewelry so that everything is in one spot and nothing gets misplaced.
Here is a reason why I decided to make this: I woke up early in the morning one day and I could not find my glasses. I could not remember where I placed it the night before but I really needed it to see. After several minutes and a mini panic attack later I found it under my bed. How it got there? I can only assume it somehow fell down in the middle of the night. The problem I see many people having is losing their valuables and not being able to find it. Whether it be sunglasses, eyeglasses, or jewelry in general no one likes the pressure of losing something they find valuable.
Solution: I certainly won’t let that happen when I have the ability to make life a little bit easier for everyone so I built a custom made jewelry box for my needs and I am going to show you how to make an inexpensive one for yourself that suits your needs.
Materials Required
List of materials you are going to need:
- Foam box
- Solder
- Wooden dowels
- LEDs
- Glue
- Brad nails
List of tools required:
- Xacto knife
- Band saw
- Soldering Iron
- Drill press
- Sanding box
- Miter box
- Hammer
- Glue gun
Making the Base
To make the base for the stand, first get a piece of cardboard and cut out a rectangular shaped piece. You can make it any size you like but I used a 24cm by 22cm piece for my building.
Sides
To make the sides, cut one 24cm by 12 cm piece and another 24cm by 18 cm piece.
Finishing the Box
The other two sides in this design are trapezoids with the 2 sides parallel, not the bases. First, cut out a 22 cm piece with one side being 18 cm and the second side being 12 cm. The top should be a diagonal. Repeat this for the second side piece.
After that is done, use hot glue to glue all 4 sides to the base.
Making the Top
For the top, cut out a 24 by 28 cm piece with a hole 20 cm from the top and 12cm to the side. This hole will serve as the opening for a dowel that will hold glasses in place.
Insert a dowel in the hole drilled previously. But do not glue the top to the rest of the stand yet.
Circuits
Do not glue the top into place yet, because the electronics need to go inside the box.
For the electronics, create a parallel circuit so that the LED’s go around the outside of the box. This makes the top light up and makes the stand looks aesthetically pleasing in your home.
Finishing Touches
Add hinges to the top most side of the box so that is opens up like a chest so that you can store items inside. You can even go ahead and paint the stand to match the color of your home or your favorite color to make it look professional.
