Glass Mosaic Mason Jar
I have been playing around with mason jars and how they can be used, reused and upcycled in so many ways. Simaltaneously I have reading and wanting to try mosaic art. This project was my way of getting my hands dirty with both of them.
So this is a mason jar upcycling project which involves learning and applying glass mosaic skills!
Supplies
Mason Jars
Stained glass sheets/ thin glass tiles
Grout
Fevicol (or anyother glue to stick glass on glass)
Glass cutter
Running Pliers
Multiple Boxes/holders to store cut glass and mix grout with
Step 1: Some Precuations
Make sure you have all the necessary safety equipment at hand a first aid kit. The safety equipment includes a pair of safety glasses, gloves and a cloth cover such that you don't get glass peices stuck on it.
Step 2: Getting the Mosaic Ready
Using the glass scorer, score the glass sheets and cut them with the help of the running pliers. Do this again and according to the shape and size you want.
Step 3: Applying the Mosaic on the Glass Surface
Using the appropriate adhesive (I have used fevicol) stick the glass peices in the arrangement as per your design and let it dry.
Step 4: Putting the Grout
Once the design on the mason jar has dried, we can apply the grout. I have used white grout, but you can use dyes to make the grout the colour that compliment your design, usually a contrasting colour bring the best out of the design.
Using gloves mix the grout with water and apply to the jar, using a damp cloth wipe the surface to remove any extra grout from the mosaic glass surface and to properly fill in the gaps.
Let it dry.
Step 5: Putting the Jar to Use
Now your Jar has been mosaic-ed. Ypu can now use it as per your need. I made lamps out of the ones I made. They make very good indoor/tabletop planters, and can be used as chic jewelry holders too.
