Ginger Snap Bath Bombs

I love making bath bombs but I find using too many essential oils in my apartment to be overwhelming. I still use them from time to time, but lately I have been experimenting with other ingredients to add a nice scent. To preface, I find making bath bombs quite temperamental at times. The fist few batches I made them were duds, and even now every once in a while I will have a flop batch. They still smell good and work perfectly, but they will have a few cracks. Either way, they will be a great addition to a relaxing bath.

The ingredients you will need are :

- 1 tsp cinnamon

- 1 tsp ground ginger

- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

- 1-2 tsp water

- 2 tsp coconut oil

- 4 oz baking soda

- 2 oz cornstarch

- 2 oz citric acid

- 2 oz epsom salts

Mixing Your Dry Ingredients

Excluding my spices, I always make my bath bomb mixture by weight. I have found that it really cuts down on potential errors that may occur while using measuring scoops. Be if you are using a plastic bowl that it is one you will not mind ruining. Once the citric acid becomes moist it will activate and burn the bowl. Mix all of the dry ingredient very well with a wisk.

Adding the Liquids

Drizzle in the oil to the dry mixture and incorporate very throughly. I start out by wisking and then go in with my hands. I rub the mixture back and forth in my hands until I am sure there are zero lumps. Next add in the vanilla, mix the same as the oil. When the vanilla hits the citric acid you will see the chemical reaction starting and it will fizz a little. Finally, add in the water slowly, just a little at a time. Keep adding water until you can grab a fist full of mixture and squeeze it into a ball that holds. It is very important to add the water until just this point, you don't want to add too much.

Forming Your Bath Bombs

You can use just about anything to mold the bath bombs. Take your pick, whatever size or shape you desire. This time I used a 1/3 measuring cup. Using this made 3 bath bombs. Pack the mixture into the mold quite firmly, if you don't they will be too delicate and crumble apart. Once packed gently tap and shake until the bath bomb starts to slide out, it can be then held into and pulled the rest of the way out. Some people let their bombs dry in the mold, I always just immediately remove them. Let your bombs air dry and then they will be ready for use!
