Ghost-themed Train

Do you need a toy that works as both a regular train and a toy for Halloween? Created by a student from Benicia High School, this train is just for you! Depending on the type of filament that you print this train out of, you could even implement lights!

Supplies

3D Print the Body!

Here is the first print of the train, which was created using fusion 360. There are also fusion and STL files if you ever want to print it.

Print the Fence

Fence1.PNG

Here's the fence pieces that go on the back of the train. You will have to print 2 since there are 4 holes, 2 for each fence.

Print the Doors

Door.PNG

There are the doors for the train, you will need to print 2 for the front and the back of the train. They might fit snug onto the train, but there is a possibility of needing to sand it down a bit.

Print the Bottom of the Train!

Train Bottom.PNG

This piece was specifically made for the ghost-themed train, as this will allow you to put a battery with LED lights inside. Be careful, this piece is very fragile depending on what material you're using. So, if you do want to put LED lights inside, make sure the lights are in a position you like before you place this piece in, as it probably will break.

Print the Train Base (part That Holds the Wheels)

Congratulations, if you're following along with the printing you finished the train body! Now, you have to print the wheels after this and you're done with the printing. If you're magnets are a big too small in length, you could break off the guards where the magnets go.

Print the Wheels

Wheels.PNG

These are the last parts that you have to print before you could start assembling. The files give you exactly 8 wheels, which is needed for the train.

Cut the 1-1/2" Nails With the Wire Cutter and the Bolt Cutter

cut nail.jpeg

Use the wire cutters to make a mark for the colt cutters to cut the nails. Cut them to about 11.85" or 30mm in length. Be careful, hold both the nail and the part of it you're cutting off so it doesn't fly anywhere that you don't want it to.

Attach the Nail Into a Wheel

This is when you use glue to attach the nail into the wheel. You can also edit the wheel files so it fits more tightly onto the nail. I unfortunately don't have an image for this, but you want the wheel to be laying on a flat surface while the nail is up in the air.

Screw on the Train Base Onto the Train

Attach the train bottom to the train, then screw on the train bases onto the train. You don't want to too tight, so I recommend 4 rotations to make it just loose enough but not tight.

Attach the Other Wheel

Once the glue has settled, put the nail through the holes of the train base and glue on the other wheel. Lay the train against the newly glued on wheel so the glue can set better.

Assemble the Last Few Pieces

Attach the magnets with the pin, but be careful on which side is which so it could attach onto other trains. Place the doors and fences in the holes designed.

Congratulations, now you have finished the train!
