Get the Most Out of Your French Toast
You ever want to have French Toast, but feel guilty about it afterwards because of all the unhealthy, yet delicious, things that go into it? Well, here is a solution to that guilt. This a healthy version of an old favorite without sacrificing any of the flavor and without breaking the bank.
Just need a few things: ·
- Ezekiel bread- Can be found in the refrigerated section of your local supermarket. We used Cinnamon raisin for flavoring.
- 2 egg whites
- ½ cup milk- Can use any but for a healthier option choose coconut milk.
- Non-stick pan spray
- Sugar-free or light syrup
- Sliced oranges (or any assorted fruits of your choosing)
And a little optional extra for both health and flavor:
- 1 scoop cinnamon bun protein powder
Crack 2 eggs into a medium sized bowl, making sure to only get the egg whites in the bowl. Flipping one half of the egg shell and putting it inside the other half to hold the yolk as the whites drip out is an effective way of doing this.
Pour ½ cup milk into bowl
Whisk the eggs and milk together until thoroughly mixed.
Side note: If you want to add protein, do so now. The protein powder will come with a scoop inside of the container. Fill the scoop with protein powder until level and mix it in with the eggs and milk.
Spray medium sized pan with non-stick spray
Place a skillet on the stovetop
Place stovetop to medium heat
Dip the Ezekiel bread in the egg mixture and cover both sides
Place Ezekiel bread into skillet.
Cook bread until golden brown on each side, using a spatula to flip bread over.
Turn off the heat on the stove and take the pan off the burner.
Take French toast out of the skillet and place onto a plate.
