Get Rid of Rust Completely and Easily in 5 Min

Have you recently noticed rust forming on your favorite metals objects???

While searching online you've undoubtedly found lots of videos using vinegar and a bunch of scrubbing that yield mediocre results at best.

Or perhaps you've seen the ones that require a power supply, a chemical bath, and electrolysis...none of which you have at home, right?

In this Instructable you'll learn a FAST and SIMPLE way to get rid of ALL rust without any scrubbing or fancy equipment.

If you'd prefer a visual tutorial, I've made a 40second video showing the process HERE.

Supplies:

baking-soda-768950_1920.jpg

Remember how the title says it's easy to do this? It's easy because it only takes a couple of things and a little bit of time (seriously, it takes a couple of minutes), and you're done.

For rust removal you'll need:

-Paper towel (toilet paper will work just as well)

-Muriatic acid (also known as Hydrochloric acid or HCl)

-Gloves (obviously, you're working with acid)

-Sodium bicarbonate aka baking soda (optional)

Warning:

WARNING: While Muriatic acid won't instantly dissolve your hands like that scene in Alien, it can burn your skin over time. I do recommend wearing gloves and washing everything (including your hands) with Sodium bicarbonate after you're done. You wouldn't want to get acid on anything other than the rust.

The goal is to cover your rusted parts with muriatic acid. Simply spraying it on will work, but would require loads of scrubbing with an iron brush or sandpaper to remove the rust.

In order for the acid to do its job without you putting in work, you need to put a paper towel on the rusted area and spray/pour the acid on the towel. The paper towel is there to keep the acid from dripping off of the part. By using the paper towel, you'll end up using MUCH LESS acid and it will be much more effective.

You'll know the acid is working when you see the paper towel change color to yellowish-green or brown. Take the paper towel off after a while, wipe off the part with a fresh towel and marble at your amazing rust removing skills.

Depending on the amount of rust, leave the napkin on the rusted part for a minute and up to 10 minutes for badly rusted parts.

TLDR:

-put a paper towel on the rusted area

-apply acid

-wait till the napkin turns a yellowy-brown colour

-take off the paper towel and be amazed

-clean everything with baking soda (hands and previously rusted area so nothing corrodes)
