Gate Door
My dad and I made this gate door from some scrap metal we had laying around. We were still just learning how to weld and this was our first major project together.
Supplies
1x1 inch hot rolled square tubing
1/2x1/2 inch hot rolled square tubing
Welder
Welding corner clamps (or magnets as we used)
Grinder
Paint
Primer
Door knob
Winges
Drill
Screws
90-degree corner connecter x4
Take Measurements
Take measurements of the intended area the gate would go.
Sketch the Design of the Gate
Sketch the design of the gate that includes the measurements you took. Or you could use a picture as a reference like my dad and I did. Before moving on to the next step, double-check to make sure all measurements and designs are finalized.
Cut or Make Sure All Pieces Are the Rigtht Size
Make sure all pieces are the correct size.
Make Middle Piece
Cut all the corners at a 45-degree angle then tac and weld together. After that, then grind down until smooth.
Make Corners Round
Weld Frame Together
Use the magnets or clamps to hold together the pieces then weld together. Grind until smooth after
Weld Frame and Middle Piece Together
Line up the middle piece with the center of the frame. Then weld pieces together.
Weld Middle Bars
Use the 1/2-inch square tubing for the middle bars of the gate. Then weld all pieces to the middle frame and the centerpiece. And then grind all welds till smooth.
Grind All Welds Smooth
Just to make sure, grind and make sure all welds are smooth and to your liking.
Support Pieces
Use the 1x1 inch tubing as supports that you will later drill into a wall. Then hinges will be welded to them. Add an end cap to the end of the tubes
Prime and Paint
Once everything is smooth and grinded down, you are ready to prime and paint your gate
Install Support Pieces
We ended up drilling into our wall to put in the support pieces and from there we welded hinges on them.
Install Gate
Finally, you can install and weld the hinges to the support.
