  1. Plastic bowl (to use as a mold)
  2. Colored paper (for decoration)
  3. Rope (cotton or jute preferred)
  4. Wood adhesive glue (like Fevicol or similar)
  5. Glue gun with glue sticks
  6. Water
  7. Scissors

Create the Hat Structure

Take a clean plastic bowl and place it upside down — this will act as the mold for shaping the top (crown) of the hat.

Starting from the top center of the bowl, begin wrapping the rope in oval loops around the bowl, forming the crown shape.

Secure each loop in place using a glue gun — apply glue at various points between loops to hold them tight and aligned.

Continue looping and gluing until you reach the bottom edge of the bowl.

Once the crown structure is complete, prepare a mixture of wood adhesive glue and a small amount of water.

Coat the entire rope surface with this mixture using a brush. Let it dry completely before applying a second coat.

Allow enough drying time between coats. This step will harden the rope structure and make it durable.

Make the Brim (Shading Part of the Hat)

  1. Once the crown is fully dry and hardened, start building the brim.
  2. Place the hat crown (now removed from the bowl) upright on a flat surface.
  3. Begin attaching rope loops around the bottom edge, expanding outward in flat, concentric circles.
  4. Continue until you complete about 10 rope loops or until the brim size is to your liking.
  5. Use the glue gun generously between loops to ensure they are strongly bonded.
  6. Again, apply two coats of watered-down wood glue over the entire brim, letting each layer dry completely.
  7. After it fully dries, your basic rope hat structure is complete!

Cover the Hat With Colored Paper

Choose your favorite color for the base of your hat. (In this project, we used green.)

Place the hat on a flat surface and measure its maximum diameter.

Cut colored paper accordingly to fit the brim, using multiple sheets if needed.

Use a glue gun to stick the paper neatly onto the brim.

For the crown (top curved part), cut 1-inch paper strips and carefully glue them side by side to fully cover the surface.

Mix and match different colors or patterns for a more vibrant and festive look!

Create Paper Flowers

Select colorful papers to make decorative flowers.

Cut each paper sheet into 100mm x 100mm squares.

Follow a paper flower tutorial video here to fold and shape the flowers.

Try making at least two different types of flowers for variety and beauty.

Decorate the Hat With Flowers

Once your flowers are ready, arrange them creatively on one side or around the entire brim.

Use a glue gun to carefully attach the flowers to the hat surface.

You can also add paper leaves, ribbons, or glitter accents for extra charm.
