I started using an alternate version of the reward system with my daughter, to balance out our struggles of getting her to help out with chores and limiting her computer/game time. I made these little "game tokens" that she can earn by doing her chores without complaining, and when we ask her to do them (not later, not in 5 minutes, now!) I was inspired by the good ol' days, when you had to go to an arcade to play games.

Each token has a different time allotment on it; 15 minutes, 30 minutes, and there is one token good for 1 hour.

I found a list of chores that is appropriate for her age (10 years) and assigned a token amount to each chore. To earn the 1 hour token, she must do something above and beyond the normal chores. I have limited the total time per week to 3 and a half hours. Game time comes after homework and the daily chores are done, of course!
This is the site where I found the chore chart, split up by age group.

Materials Used:
1/2 inch round wood craft discs
 white and pink paint
paintbrushes
fine tipped permanent marker
acrylic sealer

Steps:
1. Paint one side of all the discs, and let dry. Flip over and paint the other side and let dry. Paint the sides, careful so drips don't form on the flat sides.

2. Add dots around the edges using the tip of a small paintbrush handle. Let dry.

3.  Write whatever you want your tokens to say onto both sides with the permanent marker. You may have to go over it more than once for it to be legible. Or, if you have steady hands, you can paint on the words. I am not that steady so I used the marker.

4. Once the marker is dry (5 minutes approx. so it doesn't smear or run) give each token a coat of acrylic sealer.

You can have a lot of fun with this, coming up with different reward systems. I've thought about making some for my husband! Valentine's Day "Love Coupons" have been done...why not make some "Love Tokens" for the gamer in your life?

This can be altered to almost any age group and any reward system.
