For this project you will need:

1) glitter in variety of colors (I bought a Creatology glitter sample pack (16 colors) from Michaels craft store)

2) Fred FREAKEYS monster key caps (I got a pack of 6 on Amazon)

3) newspaper to protect workspace

4) scissors that can cut cardboard. Box cutter can also be used if you don't have scissors. I will be using scissors though.

5) a piece of cardboard. Piece doesn't have to be huge but the more cardboard you have the more monster necklaces you can make!

6)Modge Podge to adhere the glitter to the cardboard

7) cup of water (use a cup you don't really care about)

8) E6000 glue (or other strong glue)

9) small paint brushes (1 is good but I have three out).

10) pen

11) Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Coating spray

12) 2 paper plates. one to use when putting glitter on your pendants and another to use for glue.

13) 3 Jump Rings (1 large (9mm is a good size) and 2 (any size)) (I purchased a pack of assorted jump rings from Michaels).

14) chain of desired length (see chart in the pictures for this step).

15) lobster clasp

16) jewelry pliers or small pliers (not pictured).

17) paper towel

Protect Your Workspace

Cover your workspace with newspaper

Pick Your Monster and Glitter!

15, 9:32 PM.jpg
15, 9:32 PM.jpg
Pick the monster you want to use out of your Fred FREAKEYS key cap package and 3 glitter colors. I chose the Orange monster and silver, copper and teal glitter.

Draw and Cut Out Shape

15, 9:42 PM.jpg
Next step is to draw a shape onto your piece of cardboard. Make sure the top of your shape is about the size as the width of the cap opening. Also make sure the shape is large enough to hold a decent amount of glitter.. We want this necklace to make a statement!

Cut along the lines you drew to cut out the shape!

Draw Lines and Pick Glitter Order

15, 9:50 PM.jpg
Lightly draw lines onto the shape to create the 3 section you want each glitter color in.

Pick which color you want in each section.

See the picture to see what sections I chose to make. I chose teal glitter for the outside, silver for the middle section and copper for the inside section.

Choose a color of glitter to start with and paint that color's corresponding section(s) with Modge Podge.

I am painting the 2 sections on the outside of the shape for the teal glitter.

Place your paintbrush into the cup of water to prevent the Modge Podge from drying on your brush.

Next, sprinkle the glitter you chose onto the painted sections of the shape.

Let your shape dry.

Gently shake off the extra glitter from your shape or use dry paintbrush to gently swipe away the extra glitter from the blank parts of the cardboard.

In a well ventilated area, lightly spray your shape with your acrylic coating spray (follow instructions in the bottle).

Complete Section(s) for Second Glitter Color

Use your paper towel to wipe off your paintbrush. We don't want that water on there!

Choose your second color of glitter and paint that color's corresponding section(s) with Modge Podge.

I am painting the next outmost section of the shape for the silver glitter.

Place your paintbrush into the cup of water to prevent the Modge Podge from drying on your brush.

Next, sprinkle the glitter you chose onto the painted sections of the shape.

Let your shape dry.

Gently shake off extra glitter.

In a well ventilated area, lightly spray your shape with your acrylic coating spray (follow instructions in the bottle).

Use paper towel to wipe the water off your paintbrush.

Paint the sections, that correspond with your last glitter color, with Modge Podge.

I am painting the middle section for the copper glitter.

Place your paintbrush into the cup of water to prevent the Modge Podge from drying on your brush.

Next, sprinkle the glitter you chose onto the painted sections of the shape.

Let your shape dry.

Gently shake off the extra glitter from your shape.

In a well ventilated area, lightly spray your shape with your acrylic coating spray (follow instructions in the bottle).

Prepare to Attach the Shape to the Monster Key Cap

15, 10:52 PM.jpg
15, 10:52 PM.jpg
15, 10:53 PM.jpg
15, 10:55 PM.jpg
Lightly spray your entire shape with the acrylic coating spray.

Let this completely dry (look at your bottle for suggested drying times).

Make 2 small cuts in the back of the monster key cap (see picture. Red lines illustrate where the cuts should go and how big they should be). Avoid letting the monster rub against the newspaper so black marks don't appear on your monster.

Put a small amount of glue onto paper plate.

Peel up the back flap and use paintbrush to put some glue into the inside of the key cap.

Place the top of the shape into the key cap so that the glitter side of the shape is on the same side as the front/face of the monster. Be sure to not block the key ring hole of the key cap (this is where the jump ring will be!).

Use small amount of glue to glue the key cap flap onto the shape.

Wipe off paint brush and put the brush in your cup of water.

Let your monster pendant dry.

Create Necklace Chain for Monster Pendant

Note: if you can open the jump rings with your fingers you do not need pliers. I cannot find my pliers so I will be using large jump rings because I can open those without pliers.

Take your large jump ring and open it by gripping both ends of the jump ring and twisting them in opposite directions slightly to leave a small opening.

Feed one end of your opened jump ring into the key cap hole and set it aside.

Open your second jump ring using the same twisting method. Feed one end of this jump ring through the last link on one side of your chain (side 1). Close the jump ring by twisting the ends of the jump ring towards each other.

Open your last jump ring using the twisting method. Feed one end of this jump ring through the last link of the other side of the chain (side 2) AND the lobster clasp. Close the jump ring by twisting the ends of the jump rings towards each other.

Attach Monster Pendant to Necklace Chain

15, 7:13 PM.jpg
15, 7:11 PM.jpg
Open the clasp and close it around the jump ring on the other end of the chain.

Put your necklace chain into the jump ring that has your monster on it.

Make sure that the clasp will be in the correct side based on which hand is your dominant one.

Close the jump ring.

Clean Glitter Off the Monster Key Cap

I got glitter on my monster so if this happens to you can wash it off in a sink OR leave it so it's an extra glittery monster necklace!

Be careful to not get the cardboard with glitter on it wet!
