From humble beginnings: Growing up we are all familiar with the RED RADIO FLYER tricycle. It started with a walk around my block, seeing a once loved icon sitting in the trash waiting to be hauled away. With Halloween just around the corner I've decided to get a little bit creative.

Supplies

Makings of an Invisible Rider

The very first step was making it look as if young spirit was still here playing with the tricycle. So I needed to be clever on how I hid all the important parts from prying eyes, as well giving it the power that it needed to move such a heavy item with small motor that can be hidden.

Keep It All Hidden/ Parts Needed

Reasoning:

Hidden under the foot pad on the rear of the trike lives all on components needed for all the motions. Because this trike has an invisible rider I had no place to hide any of the parts. Unfortunately while building this creation its not documented. here is a picture of the underside of the trike and how all the parts fit together

Skills needed are the following:

  • Understanding basics about electrical components
  • Welding
  • Geometry
  • Not afraid on making mistakes

Front Fork and Bearing

The neck of a stock radio flyer tricycle does not use bearings they use a bushing. You will need to remove the stock neck and stem of the fork and replace it with bearing. I took mine off a razor scooter for this project that I had laying in my scrap pile. When I welded on the neck I also decreased the rake slightly to help the non powered wheel in the front to swivel and turn with the trike

Add a Bell

The project name of this trike is called Anna-bell and to help mess with people coming across this trike I've added a bell to increase the creepy factor. How that was accomplish is I used and old alarm bell, and a LED switch for rc crawlers and planes to make it ring
