GET THEM DIRTY BOOTS OFF!
I LIVE IN THE US, WHERE SNOW NEVER ARRIVES - SUNNY FLORIDA. BUT MY FAMILY ALL LIVE IN WASHINGTON STATE SO THEY CAN GET BOMBARDED WITH SNOW. AND AS I HAVE MY OWN WORK SHOP, I GET TO CONJUR UP GIFTS FOR THEM THAT WILL BE USEFUL. WITH THIS SNOW CHALLENGE, I THOUGHT "WHY NOT SHOW HOW I MAKE THEM 'BOOT JACKS'"? THAN I'LL HAVE A GIFT I CAN SEND UP TO MY DAD AS WELL! WIN-WIN.
Supplies
1x6 piece of wood, tape measure, pencil, glue, clamps
DRAW IT OUT
I guessed about 14 inches in length would be good, so cut the board to that length.
Then I marked out the groove for the boot, using the glue bottle and a measuring cup as two diameters, the narrower (glue) being the base and widening up to the larger (measuring cup). You never know what size boot will fit into it, so this takes all sizes.
Then I drew straight lines left and right to a narrower spot at the base. You can leave it rectangular, I just did this to give it a little better design.
BAND SAW AWAY
Now just cut it out....
Sand it when done so smooth.
RISER MADE AND AFFIXED
Using the same board, I put my chop saw at 3-degrees and cut a 1 1/4" piece off so this can be glued into the bottom side and act as a riser.
Then clamp it on.
YOU'RE ALL DONE
Now, just sand it up, put some finish on it if you want and it's all ready for use!!
