GEO ONE - 3D PRINTED MOLD for CONCRETE PLANTER !

1.jpg

This is the Ultimate guide to do the GEO ONE Concrete Planter !

DON'T YOU WANT ONE OF THEM ????

I have designed this pot and shared the mold so that everyone can download it for free and do it anywhere in the world !! If you have a 3d printer, i challenge you to step up your 3d Printed projects to a new level !! If you dont have a 3d printer, dont worry ! You can download the files and print the parts on a local fab lab or 3d printer in your city. And then bring them to your house and have fun with this project learning the basics of concrete casting.

Supplies

-3d printer working fine and supplies (PLA and Flexible filament)

*Or a 3d printer service near you !

-Concrete (water based only)

-Water

-Sealer (it can be brick or concrete sealer)

-Whatever you want to put into the GEO-ONE !!

MY DESIGN PROCESS

THINGIVERSE 02

This was how i designed it !!

I used a free software called BLENDER 3d.

Is very easy and intuitive to use ! I only watched some youtube tutorials and this was my first project with it.

If you have a 3d printer, i recomend you to lear this 3d modeling software.

Once i had the design finished, i modeled the mold.

We used the MAKER300 printer from MAKERMADECNC

You can donwload all the files -for free- on

Is a 3 part mold + tiny locks to attach the sides.

If you have a 3d printer, here are some advices:

The sides have to be MIRRORED - not equals- and printed on PLA (solid filament)

The inside part can be printed on PLA too, but you will have to break it to demold the concrete.

So i recomend to print the inside part on FLEXIBLE Filament. It can be removed easily.

If you dont have a 3d printer, dont worry! Send the files to a 3d printer near you. The prints will cost some money but it worth the shot so finally you have some planters!

You can print it in the size you want !! Combine scales: 100% + 80% + 60% and you will have the 3 beautiful combo of the first picture.

CONCRETE CASTING

Geometric Concrete Pot Mold Casting

As you can see on the video, the "model" goes upside down.

You will cast the concrete from the bottom of the Planter.

If you want to do a hole in the bottom for the water of the Plant, just attach a vertical silicone stick to the top/center of the inner part. The silicone is a -very easy to demold- material.

Info about the concrete mix. I use a -only water required- concrete. (without sand) Here in my country is called "Grouter" but in USA or UK it might be similar to the "quickcrete".

Experiment with concrete ! Add some color to the mix ! Marble them ! Cast with other materials like resin ! Or just paint it !

DEMOLD AND FINISH

Once the concrete is dry, demold it and wash well the mold for another casts !

The molds lasts at least 5 times - With a slow print quality and a good wash of the mold it can last up to 20 casts.

To achieve a perfect finish use a Concrete Sealer of your choice.(Acrylic or solvent based). Just wipe the concrete surface and let it dry. With each layer of sealer, the concrete becomes less penetrable for liquids and creates a smoother finish. Apply it on the inside part too.

If you end up crazy like me you will be doing thousands after the first one !

PLANT IT OR CANDLE IT !
