Fun Monster Mask

These masks are really simple and fun to make and once you've mastered the technique it's so easy to get creative and design your own!

Happy mask-making!

Supplies

All you need is:

Paper and scrap cardboard (the stronger the card the better!);

Pencil, pen and marker pen;

Paint and brushes;

Scissors and a craft-knife;

Double-sided sticky tape or pads.

Making a Template

masks2.jpg

Draw a mask on a piece of paper (A4) and cut it out.

Drawing Tip: Hold the paper to your face to work out where the eyes should be and draw a simple rectangle before adding the ears and horns.

Draw around this paper template onto strong card.

Cutting Out

Cut out the mask and a handle (approx. 1 1/2" x x 12")

Painting

Paint the mask and handle with as many coats as necessary.

Tip: Painting both sides can help stop the cardboard from warping.

Finishing Touches

Add features with marker pen and/or paint.

Then stick double-sided tape or pads to the top of the handle and attach it to the bottom centre of the mask.

Done!

You've just made a Fun Monster Mask!

Bif and Bop, the monsters shown in this instructable are taken from a book I wrote and illustrated for children but you can make your own template with whatever character you like:

E.g. a cat, a dog, a bear, drama masks, super hero, enlarged photo etc.

Other ideas:

Make the mask from plywood and paint with waterproof paint before placing in the garden as a bird-scarer. Add a finishing touch by gluing foil or placing lights behind the eye-holes!

Make mini-masks from thin card and attach to cocktail sticks for fun cake-toppers!

Hope you enjoyed your mask-making! Jx
