Fully 3D Printed Syringe

Here is why I needed to make this, and why you might too.

Electronics is my favorite hobby. --> Soldering is a big part of the hobby. --> The nature of soldering requires the precise and frequent application of flux, a cleaning and oxide removing agent. --> I only have a tub of solid flux which made application impossible.

My issue, described in the previous sentence, combined with the fact that I have 3D printer and time on my hands gave birth to the Fully 3D Printed Syringe. It was designed in Fusion 360 and designing it helped me learn some of Fusion's core concepts.

The syringe is fully 3D Printed and requires no additional hardware costing as little as 10 cents to create. It has a small protrusion at the tip which allows for small amounts of jelly like substances (such as solid flux) to be precisely dispensed. It works great for non-critical applications such as hobby flux, but the lack of a gasket or accurate volume control means that any pros should opt to buy a better syringe. Happy making.

Supplies

This project was born as a quick solution to my problem. If you are shopping for flux, just get some of this!

See Thingiverse for more details. Basic print settings should work. PLA is fine. Use better stuff if you want to use it close to your iron.

Assembly

Using a spatula, (not a cooking spatula please) scoop the flux and press it into the syringe. Once you have inserted the desired amount, press it down with the plunger until it comes out the nozzle. Problem solved!
