Fruity Pupsicle: Good for You, Good for Your Dog.
I read a book by a psychologist not too long ago that devoted an entire chapter to “treating yourself the same way you treat your dog” . That book was called “12 Rules for Life” by Jordan Peterson. My dogs are super spoilt and absolutely love fruit. So, with the idea of treating myself the same as I would treat my dog, I have made a healthy Pupsicle Instructable that is both human and dog friendly and also ideal for hot summer months. As an avid juicer and smoothie maker every morning, I have come up with this little basic recipe that tastes just like a banana cake.
This is a picture of my dog (in the middle) on his birthday with Pupsicles made in different flavors using a silicone cupcake mold, when he was 5. My dog is now 10. The other 2 good looking dogs are his parents. Mum on the left and dad on the right. All mischief makers.
For his birthday, we did add marshmallows and sprinkles to their Pupsicles as an added bonus. If you do choose to do this, make sure you add them to the bottom of the mold first as they will not stick once the Popsicle is frozen.
Also, the flavors used for different colours:
Mulberries and Blueberries will get a purple colour. Avocado will get a light green colour and Strawberries and Raspberries will get you a pink colour. Turmeric will get you a yellow colour.
You Will Need:
All ingredients are pet friendly and approved for consumption by vets. I feed these to my own trio of fur babies often.
You Will Need:
Freezer with some space
Ice Cube Tray or Muffin Tray
Blender
Knife
Chopping Board
Popsicle Sticks (optional)
Ingredients:
1 can of coconut milk/coconut cream (100mL)
1 handful of fresh coconut (optional) - this is great for your dogs teeth.
2 large banana (alternatively this could also be done with strawberries)
1 teaspoon of honey
2 tablespoons water, as needed
The Prep Work
1. Dice all your fruits.
2. Combine all ingredients (except fresh coconut) in a blender, and blend until smooth.
3. Taste for sweetness. Then pour immediately into an ice cube tray or muffin tray. If you have chosen to use fresh coconut, this is your moment to add them to the ice cube trays. If you are opting to use Popsicle sticks, add them now as well.
4. Freeze for minimum 4 hours.
5. Once completely frozen, de-mold from tray and store in an air-tight lunchbox in the freezer for up to 3 weeks. But honestly, they wont last that long. They taste so good.
6. Treat yourself and treat you puppy dogs.
Enjoy!
I really hope you give this recipe a try. And please let me know what you think of it. Give it a like if you do like it or try it. And remember to treat yourself the same way you treat your pets.
Cheers
