Fruity Cake

My mom has made this cake for a long time and I have always loved it. I hope you like it, too.

You can make this cake with any kind of fruit pie filling (cherries, blueberries, strawberries, etc.) and white or yellow cake mix. The spice cake mix goes well with the apple pie filling but you can use yellow or white cake mix with it as well.

Supplies

Ingredients:

Boxed cake and all of the tools and ingredients listed in the instructions on the back for this recipe. (I used a spice cake)

16 oz can of fruit pie filling (I used apple)

Frosting to match (Optional, I used a cream cheese frosting, but you could use something with flavors to match your fruit filling, e.g. chocolate with cherry, strawberry with strawberry. It is also very good with no frosting at all.)

The Boxed Cake

mix the cake mix according to the directions on the back including setting the temperature for the over. Pour the mixed cake in the pan as if you were baking it but don't put it in the over just yet.

Adding the Fruit

Since the apple chunks were so big, I used a pair of kitchen shears to cut them down into more bite-sized pieces. Use a spoon to drop them into the waiting cake mix then run the spoon up and down the cake to make sure that the apples and glaze are evenly distributed.

Bake

Bake according to package instructions but add 5 minutes. When the time is up, remove the cake from the oven and tap the center of it. If it bounces back without leaving a divot, then it is done. If it leaves a divot, let it bake for 5 more minutes and try again.

Frosting

Let the cake cool then frost it with your chosen frosting if desired. It is just as yummy without frosting. Enjoy with milk, coffee, water, or whatever you're drinking!
