From Scrub to Skirt

I turned an nurse's scrub top into a skirt with pockets.

You need an old nurse's scrub. A good pair of scissors, thread, 4inch width of black elastic, long enough to go around your waist, and a zigzag sewing machine. Note: The size of top should be one large enough to go over your hips.

Cut the top just below the arms to get as much length as possible.

Measure your waist. Cut a 1/4 inch less than your waist. Sew the two ends together. Pin the elastic to the right sides of the fabric in four places. One pin at each side seam and the other two in the center, front and back. I'm sorry I didn't get a picture of this, so I cut another one and the elastic is narrow. It's important to divide the sections to keep the portions of elastic equal.

With the elastic pinned to the right side of the fabric, place the garment and elastic underneath the presser foot. Using a zigzaz stich make a few stitches then backstitch to secure the stitches. As you begin to sew the garment pull the elastic to the length of the material at the next pin, then continue pulling the elastic to the material at the next pin. Continue doing this in all four sections until you reach your starting point. Don't forget to backstitch again at the end.

Finished product. I can't wait to use this at the beach. I love having pockets for my keys & iPhone.
