From Paper and Plastic to Wall Grid

So the story behind this project was I really wanted a wall grid to hang my photos in my room. But yeah, since I was too lazy to buy it, or maybe just because I am literally didn't want to spend my money on a wire wall grid (:p), so I need to make my own wall grid. I remembered how I made my own hanging bookshelf with newspapers, so I just need to modify that paper tube technique to make a wall grid. Then, voila! I made a wall grid out of newspapers and plastic bags.

Yes, you hear it right.

I also used plastic bags in this project (oh, perhaps the earth would be a little happy if we all recycle those plastic bags). If you're interested in this low budget wall grid, stay until the last part of this instructable. Happy crafting and recycling :D

In this project I used:

1. Newspaper

2. Scissors

3. Cutter

4. Double tape (0.5 cm in width)

5. Tape

6. Hot glue and a Glue gun

7. Plastic bag. I prefer the black one

8. Heavy-duty tape or two sticky hooks

I started by cutting one sheet of newspaper into four pieces (about ------------ cm). I used my finger for rolling the tubes, but you can also use a thin knitting needle or 3mm dowel. Place the dowel on a corner of the newspaper at an acute angle. This will give you a long tube.

Tuck under the corner edge and then roll with your fingers. There are various methods of rolling the paper tubes, and after a couple of paper tubes you will work out which one works best for you. When you reach the end, use transparent tape to secure in place.

You will notice once you have made a few tubes that one end is ever so slightly narrower than the other. Don't worry about this. For this wall grid, I made 14 tubes: 7 horizontal tubes and 7 vertical tubes.

In this step, I cut the plastic bag about 1-2 cm width strips. I took one paper tube and stick double tape along the tube. Peel the tip of double tape slowly and wrap the tube with the plastic strip. Repeat this step for all those 14 paper tubes.

Arrange the tubes as you can see in the pictures. Firstly I arranged the outer rectangle. I used a hot glue/glue gun to connect all the tubes. please be careful when using hot glue. Cut the tube to fit the outer rectangle.

When the grid is completely done, you just need to hang it on the wall using sticky hooks. Now you can add your photos or anything to your wall grid.
