From Old Pants, to New Bags!

It is no secret to anyone that our planet needs help, we constantly hear things about environmental pollution and the expenditure of natural resources. Currently the textile industry is the second most polluting on the planet after the oil company.

This instructable seeks to encourage the creation of new products with those very old that we want to throw away. (In this case, running a quarantine cleanup, I found two pants that were already quite worn and I found them very useful for making some bags for my tripod, kites, yoga mat and folding chair).

I hope you enjoy this instructable as much as I enjoyed doing it and that you get ideas on what to do with old clothes.

No es para nadie un secreto que nuestro planeta necesita ayuda, constantemente escuchamos cosas sobre la contaminación ambiental y el gasto de recursos naturales. Actualmente la industria textil es la segunda más contaminante del planeta después de la petrolera.

Este instructable busca incentivar la creación de nuevos productos con aquellos muy viejos que queramos botar. (En este caso realizando una limpieza de cuarentena, encontré dos pantalones que ya estaban bastante desgastados y descubrí que son muy útiles para hacer forros para trípodes, cometas, tapetes de yoga, sillas plegables o lo que se les pueda ocurrir)

Espero que disfruten este instructable tanto como yo disfruté haciéndolo y que les de ideas sobre qué hacer con ropa vieja.

In this case the example will be a bag for a foldable chair. The first thing I did was to place the folded chair on the pants and also inside them to see how to cut them to create the bag. (On the side I left very little space, however up and down I left approx 10cm extra.)

En este caso el ejemplo utilizado es una silla plegable. Lo primero que hice fue colocar la silla plegada sobre el pantalón y también dentro de este para ver qué tamaño ocupaba y como cortarlo para crear la bolsa. (De lado dejé muy poco espacio libre, sin embargo arriba y abajo si dejé aprox 10cm extra.)

We cut from one leg of the pants, the rectangle that will be our bag.

Cortamos de una pierna del pantalón, el rectángulo que será nuestro forro.

I also cut two rectangles from the pants, to be able to sew 2 D-rings to the bag to which the rope will be attached.

También corté dos rectángulos del pantalón, para poder unir dos herrajes que serán los que tengan la correa para colgarlo.

I sewed these on one side (they would be like a tube) and then I turned them inside out with the help of a stick.

Estos los cosí por un lado (que quedaran como un tubo) y después los giré de adentro hacia afuera con la ayuda de un palo.

Before sewing the D-ring to the bag, we must sew a section in the upper part that leaves a space through which a rope will pass that will allow the bag to open and close whenever we want.

Antes de coser el herraje a el forro, debemos coser una sección en la parte superior que deje libre un espacio por el que pasará la cuerda que permitirá abrir y cerrar el forro cuando queramos.

One of the fabric tubes with one of the D-rings that we prepared previously, is sewn to the bag at the top. (Leave it below the seam we made so that in the future there is free space in that area to pass a rope that will allow us to open and close the bag.)

Uno de los tubos de tela con uno de los herrajes que preparamos previamente, se cose al forro en la parte superior. (Dejarlo por debajo de la costura que hicimos para que en el futuro quede espacio libre en esa zona para pasar una cuerda que nos permitirá abrir y cerrar el forro.)

Let's sew the still-open side of the bag.

Cosemos el lado que aun está abierto del forro.

Before closing the bottom part, the missing D-ring must be inserted so that it is there when sewing.

Antes de cerrar la parte de abajo, se debe mete el herraje faltante para que al coserlo quede ahí.

And to give a finish that looks like a square at the bottom, we open the bag until the bottom is opened and as seen in the image, we fold it and make two seams. If we want we can cut the remaining parts (As shown in the image)

Y para dar un terminado que parezca un cuadrado en la parte inferior, abrimos el forro hasta que la parte de abajo quede abierta y como se ve en la imagen, la doblamos y hacemos dos costura. Si lo deseamos podemos cortar las partes que quedan sobrantes (Como se muestra en la imagen)

We turn the inside out.

Giramos la parte de adentro hacia afuera.

To add the straps I decided to sew them by hand to the D-rings previously added to the bag. To this strap, I also added the possibility of resizing it when desired.

Para agregar las correas decidí coserlas a mano a los herrajes previamente colocados al forro. A esta también le agregué la posibilidad de cambiar el tamaño cuando se desee.

I put a rope through the space that we had left free at the top to open and close the bag when desired.

Metí una cuerda por el espacio que habíamos dejado libre en la parte superior para poder abrir y cerrar el forro cuando se desee.
