Fresh Mozzarella Sticks

Homemade Mozzarella Sticks Baked or Fried?

Baked or Fried? Which would you prefer? You can have them either way with this recipe, they are better than what you would get in a restaurant. Go ahead and try them out.   • 12 sticks of mozzarella
  • 2 cups bread crumbs
  • 2 tsp basil
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1/2 tsp garlic
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/3 cup water
  • a few dashes of hot sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups flour for dredging

Mix Bread Crumbs

In a medium bowl mix all the dry ingredients with the bread crumbs and set aside.

Whisk the Egg Mixture

In another bowl whisk the eggs with water and a couple dashes of the hot sauce. Set that aside.

Breading Procedure

Next set up your three bowls along side one another. That's the flour bowl, egg mixture and the bread crumb mixture. Roll the cheese in the flour one at a time, then dip it in the bowl with the egg mixture. Roll it in the flour one more time and dip it in the eggs again. Then toss the egg coated mozzarella stick in the bread crumb mixture and coat well.

​For Frying

Lay each stick in a deep fryer set to 350 degrees and fry for about 3 minutes, until the crust is golden.

For Baking

Lay the sticks on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake in a oven at 475 degrees for a few minutes. Try and get it before the cheese starts to pop out. let it set for a couple minutes once out of the oven.
