Homemade apple pie.

Materials:

Pie Filling:

3/4 cup light brown sugar

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

3/4 tsp ground cinnamon, plus more for sprinkling

Nutmeg, to taste

7 medium apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced ( I used a mixture of red, green and yellow)

1 lemon, juiced

3 tbsp butter, diced

Egg wash, for brushing

Sugar, for sprinkle

Frozen pie crust ( I used a two pack) Thawed out at least 20 minutes

Pie dish

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.

Mix together the brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a small bowl. In another bowl, sprinkle apples with juice of 1 lemon and toss. Stir in the sugar mixture to evenly coat all the apples. Set aside.

Step 2

Roll out the chilled dough onto your baking pie dish. Mound the apple and sugar mixture into the pie pan lined with dough. Dot with the cubed butter.

For the second dough use a pastry cutter (I used my pizza cutter) and cut an even number of strips from the remaining rolled out dough. Transfer every other strip to the pie top and weave in the lattice by folding every other strip back onto itself and laying another strip perpendicularly. Fold the strips back across and repeat until completed.

Step 3

Brush the top of the pie with egg wash and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Trim the overhanging dough and crimp the edges.

Bake pie for 45 minutes. Let it rest for 20 minutes before slicing. Enjoy

* Make sure to put aluminum foil around the edges and half way through the pie cover the top with foil so the top of the pie would not burn or over brown. Make sure to watch your pie in case of bubbling.

* For the sugar I used Splenda products.
