French Photo Board

IMG_20220109_220347.jpg

I've always wanted to try and make my own French photo board, but without sewing anything. So, I got some ideas and came up with a way to make an easy one, with stuff you might find lying around your house.

Supplies

  • Staple gun
  • Fabric scissors
  • 6-8 pins
  • Super glue or hot glue gun with glue sticks
  • Pliers or 6-8 erasers off of a pencil [ old or new ]
  • Any color of ribbon
  • About 3 quarters of a yard of fabric [ but make sure its width is bigger than the canvas's width ]
  • Black marker
  • 21 1/2" x 16" canvas

Cutting the Fabric

Lay the fabric down on a flat surface.

Then put the canvas on top of the fabric, and make sure the canvas is facing face down.

Take the black marker and draw a rectangle [ with an inch between the canvas and the line ] on the fabric.

Use the fabric scissors to cut out the rectangle you made with black marker.

Finally pick the canvas up and flip the fabric on the other side, so the print on the fabric is facing down. And place the canvas exactly as it was.

Time to Staple!

Fold the inch of fabric over onto one of the four sides of the canvas.

Then staple the fabric to the edge of the canvas until you reach one of the corners.

To staple the the corners, pretend it's the last part of wrapping a present.

Grab the end of the fabric and press it against the canvas. Fold the top part over onto the canvas, then the second edge of the fabric on top of the first part of the folded fabric. Finally staple the folded parts of the fabric to the canvas.

Repeat until all the fabric is stapled down.

Cutting Off the Strings [ If There Are Any ]

If there are any strings that are hanging on the fabric you can simply cut them off with the scissors. Doing this will help the fabric not fall apart as bad, or even at all.

Placing the Ribbon

Cut long strips of ribbon according to the canvas. With an inch or more hanging off the canvas.

Lay the strips of ribbon diagonally across the canvas.

Poking the Pins Into the Canvas

IMG_20220109_200228.jpg

Poke the pins right in the center of the X that the ribbons make. [ You'll probably only need to do this 6 to 8 times ]

This will help the ribbons stay down until you glue the ribbons.

Gluing the Ends of the Ribbons

IMG_20220109_200432.jpg

Wherever the ribbons rest, glue the part of the ribbon that is laying on the edge of the canvas. [ There should still be some hanging off when you're gluing the ribbons.]

Do this with all the ends of the ribbons.

Stapling the Ends of the Ribbon

Once the glue is done drying, flip the canvas over and staple the ends of the ribbons to the canvas.

Cut off any long ends of the ribbons

Making It Safe!

While the canvas is still flipped over, place the erasers on the ends of the pins. So, they don't poke you and fall out.

All Done!
