Four- Wheeling
Step #1
Before you start the machine you need to make sure you have all the gear first. This includes:
· Helmet: make sure it has a secure fit and the right size and doesn’t move around. Always buckle it.
· Under Armor: For the more extreme riders.
· Warm Jacket: whether or not it is really hot out, the wind is still cold when you start riding. The weather can be unpredictable.
· Shoes: no sandals or flip flops. You should where riding boots or shoes.
Step #2
At this point you are almost ready to ride. Before you do anything you need to make sure the machine is the right one for you. There are different types to fit the different users.
Step #3
After finding the proper gear you need to check the fluid in the machine. Even if the it has a half or ¾ tank it is still a good idea to fill it the rest of the way. Most people don’t know how long they will be riding and will bring an extra container of gas.
Step #4
You will need to check the tire pressure in all four tires. Forgetting to do this will be bad down the line. Get into the habit.
Step #5
If you don’t know how to do the past few steps then before the ride ask a local technician or a friend to show you how to do it in the future. Having a technician to talk to can come in handy.
Step #6
ALWAYS have a riding buddy. Never go anywhere alone you never know what can happen.
Step #7
Before you turn the machine on make sure that the machine is in neutral. On some machines there will be a light. On others you look for the “N” on the screen.
Step #8
Now that the machine is ready you need to let it idle and warm up.
Step #9
The machine is ready to ride. The basic rules to follow are:
-Stop at intersections: even out in the country if you on the roads the cars don’t look and they have the right of way.
-Look both ways: There are some crazy drivers so you need to look both ways before going forward. You need to do this on both roads and trails.
Step 10
The most important rule is to be safe and have fun. Also pay attention to your surroundings and your friends.
